I love my Graco Duo Glider. It comes with a travel system and is easy to push. Also, I hated my old infant carrier handle, but this one is so much better. I tried the Jeep one, but I HATED it. Way too hard to push and steer.
Hi! Anyone out there have an opinion on which double stroller I should buy for a newborn and 2 year old? Side by side or tandem? Brand? Do I need one that has a travel system? Any advice you can give me will help! Thanks =-)

I recieved teh graco with an infant seat in back and toddler seat infront and it served me very well. No one could touch each other unwanted.. get my drift. I had 3 little ones at the time so, after the baby got a little bigger I could push all three on the stroller by laying the infant section completly down, placing two kids in it one holding onto the other ( sitting between the back ones legs) and the other sitting in the front seat. I actually still use this stroller for swim meets and soccer games and my youngest is 4. I use it to store all the jackets, snacks etc and MOM sits in teh front seat while watching the games!
We had a JEEP double stroller and while it was nice to have the toys on front to occupy my older one, it was HEAVY and hard to steer. I do not recommend it!
Good luck!
I see you've had many responses and would like to add my own. :-) When my youngest was born I needed a stroller for a two year old and a newborn. I got a wonderful double stroller/sit-n-stand from www.onestepahead.com . I LOVE this stroller! It's so much easier to push than our single stroller and I've even been able to steer it one handed! The one I purchased has a back seat that can be converted from a regular stroller seat to a sit-n-stand. The only downside is that it doesn't fold as small as I would like, though I can fit it into the trunk of a Dodge Neon. Nothing else fits.... I hope you find something that works for you!
I can not say enough about my stroller - the price was fair and it pushes like a dream. My hubby is 6 ft 6 in and it is comfortable for him as well. Took us a few tries to get the folding down to a science. I love the safety features and the reclining seats. I never used the car seat with it since my daughter was a few months old when I bought it I just reclined the seat and she loved it - especially since she was facing me.
I have the Kolcraft Contours Option Stoller
http://www.albeebaby.com/kocooptastin.html
I had a cup holder break, my own fault and when I called there were no questions asked - they shipped one out free of charge. I also received a call that they improved the seats and made them wider so they were letting me know I would be receiving new seat and no charge to me at all.
We have a Kolcraft red, front back stroller. It rides really easy, even on grass and is easy to push. It comes with 2 seats that have the 5 point harness and an attachment to hold the carseat for the newborn. We have a 3 month old and an almost 3 year old and love it. It folds very easily and is easy to switch between the carseat attachment and the regular seat. You can also have the kids face eachother, or both face forward (if using both seats and not the car seat attachement). It also has a nice size basket underneath and a handle off the side for an older kid to use. The only downside is that the trunk in our pontiac doesnt close all the way, but it fits in our Sonata. Let me know if you have other questions.
I am the mother of 2 wonderful children ages 8 months and almost 3 years. We have the Graco Quattro Tour double stroller and love it! It is large, but is very easy to open and close (1 hand). It was wonderful when my son was very young because I was able to put the infant seat right into the stroller. My daughter loves that she can sit in the front or the back and still get a cup holder and a snack spot! Hope this helps!
I LOVE my Graco Quattro Tour. I have now a 18mo and 4 year old. I chose the double opposed to the sit-n-stand because then my older one has a real seat. He can totally hop on and off as he wishes. It is a little shorter than the duo-glide, front and back fit though doors and grocery lines (my main use is grocery shopping and the zoo) Side-by-side would not let me through a grocery line. I can get the Quattro through doors just as easily as my single. I have had 5 or more strollers and this is the easiest to push. I can fit most of a week worth of groceries on it for a family of 4.

I think a lot depends on what you want to do with your stroller, storage space, weight limits, and price point.
We had a double stroller - a sit n stand and it did not work for us. Our older daughter didn't like to be facing in the opposite direction and because she could "get out" there was no good way to keep her "contained" when I wanted her to.
We ended up buying a BOB stroller - it is a side by side jogging stroller. We love it. I can literally push it with one hand with both of my girls in it. And that is about 70#s of kid in it. It has dual sun shades, so each girl can have what they wish. My oldest is 3 1/2 and for big excursions, still will hop in the stroller when she is tired, i.e. fairs, long hikes, amusement parks, the zoo, etc. It folds up well, but is easiest when you don't have to compact it all the way. Since the tires are like bike tires, it can go over a lot of different terrain. The front wheel can be locked in place to go jogging with it. They do sell an "adapter" to place a car seat in it for an infant. We will be buying this as #3 is on the way. This is our only stroller. We got rid of our single stroller since our kids will be so close together. Even though it is a side by side, we did not have any problems getting it through mall doors, etc. It might have been a little tight, but it was never that we couldn't get through. It can go anywhere a wheelchair can go.
Another place to look for strollers is on www.strollermama.com They are based out of Beachwood, OH. They have a lot of different options and though they do not have a store, you can set up a time with them to check out the strollers in person since it is a big investment.
Good Luck!

Our boys are 2 1/2 years apart. We bought a double stroller. We used it exactly twice.
No matter the configuration, they are awkward. Their wheels really only work best on hard floors like the mall, and who has any money with two babies? At first the big kid is WAY too big and can smack the baby; later when they are closer to the same size, the little one likes to pull the hair of the big one. Incessant pestering.
Don't waste your money. Just get a sling for the infant (not one of those front backpacks that strain your shoulders as the baby gets heavier, but an actual long wide piece of cloth with a buckle like women for centuries have toted babies with), keep using the stroller you've been using for the older baby. Later, when the infant is bigger, the older one will be ready to do more walking anyway (or our older guy sometimes sat on the "step" with baby).
Best wishes,
K.
I don't know about the side by side doubles but I have a back to back one and it's hard to push and steer with both kids in and a diaper bag and whatever else. LOL

We had the same questions just a few weeks ago. We got the Chicco Trevi Twin (only sold at Babies R Us). It has a "bunting" on both sides so your newborn can be covered no matter where they are and it goes up to 40 lbs. My 3 yr old and 7 week old love it. And it folds up relatively small. It is a side by side but fits through a standard doorway just fine. You can check it out on www.chiccousa.com
We have had several Chicco products and they stand by them too. We had a piece, which kept it from locking in place, fall off another stroller, they just want a picture of it and they sent us another within a week. I recommend them to everyone I know.
I have the Kolcraft double stroller for my kids. I t is a travel stroller in the back and the back seat goes back. My 4 yr old would sit in the front but need to get rid of it know b/c she is getting to tall for it. IF interested I was going to sell it so let me know and I will send you pictures of it. It is nice and I used it a lot with my sons car seat as a baby.... It has the underneath storage that is tight but still nice.....
The Joovy Ultralight Sit and Stand is AWESOME!! It is about $100 more than the regular Joovy, but it is super light, turns on a dime and absolutely WONDERFUL!!!! My kids love it, my friends love it, my husband and I love it!!!
I would definitely recommend a stroller that the baby seat fits onto. Otherwise you'll have to wake baby when you take baby out of car seat to put baby in the stroller. If the baby is in a seat that fits on the stroller, all you do is detach the baby seat from the base in your van, and then snap it on the stroller.
If you have a kid who likes to get in and out of the stroller a lot then you want to go with a Sit 'n' Stand by Joovy. It's the one I have and I can even get my two skinny toddlers on the back. When they decide they want to get down and walk (like at the zoo) they can without me having to lift them out. But I can buckle them in if I need to. It's the best. Joovy Caboose. Just google for it. It's the best. That's my suggestion.

I bought an Evenflo double stroller when my second was born and my first was a little over 2. It would hold the infant carrier in the front or in the back seat. I really liked that feature because the front seats tend to be smaller, so if we were out all day I could put my son in the back seat and lay him down if he fell asleep!!
It also handles wonderfully, and it is a little smaller than some of the other double strollers I looked at. Another feature I really liked since the stores seem to think they need to cram as much stuff in as possible.
I don't like the idea of the side by side strollers because they are very difficult to get through doors. Also when walking through crowds it is tough with a stroller that wide.
I guess in the end I would go to the store and try a bunch of them out!!! I went to several stores, I would put car seats similar to mine in them have my son climb in and push them around to see how they handled!!! That is how I finally made my decision, I guess cost had a little to do with it also. I really didn't want to spend a couple hundred dollars!!
Hope this helps

side by side is hard when you have 2 kids that are so different in weight!
I only have one child but my sister had lots of issues with double strollers and my neighbor has seemed to find the solution after a few tries.
Side by side double strollers are hard to maneuver and you cannot get them through lots of stores. My neighbor has a single stoller that you add an attachment to, to make it a double stoller. It is called Phil and Ted's. Sounds funny but true. It is a company out of New Zealand. You can find it online and it is only as big as a regular single stroller. My neighbors love it for two kids and I love it for one! Great maneuverability!
I searched the internet before I bought my side-by-side Schwinn double stroller. I love it. Rides smoothly, has an adjustable handle for short or tall parents. We really like it. It's the schwinn deluxe double stroller. I bought mine brand new off of ebay. About $100 cheaper than ordering it from a store. Since hardly any of the stores have double strollers in stock, you have to pay for shipping. Baby Depot has the most options in store, mostly instep, I think. Instep and Schwinn are made by the same company. I have a 9mo. and almost 4 yr. old. Good luck!
I suggest the sit and stand stroller, I have a 3 yr old and a 7 month old and love this stroller. The car seat attaches and the 3 yr old sits or stands facing me. It is not as big and bulky as the doubles. Only problem is the 3 yr old can't sleep in it. Good Luck.
My oldest daughter was just over 2 years old when the new baby came along. After talking with the "experts" at Babies R Us, we chose the Graco Duo stroller which can accomodate the infant seat and the toddler. Now that they are 4 and 2 years old, we still use the stroller for trips to the fair, the mall, etc. I had originally been considering a Sit N Stand and the guy at Babies R Us felt that our older daughter was too young for it at the time.
Good luck with your decision!
Hi A.. We have the Sit and stand stroller and I love it. It can be used with a newborn car seat as well (You do not need to buy a new seat since it can be universal) My 10 week old can sit in it with some support already. We got it at Target for I think $100. But I have a friend who found one on Craig's List cheaper. Good Luck!
I would get the tandem. Side by side is to hard to get through store isles, etc.
I bought mine 12 years ago with only one child and used it a lot.
As far as brand I'm out of the looop.
Goodluck !!
to start out you should use the tandem one in front of the other bc your 2yr old is not going to want the baby next to them until the baby is older I have twins and just bought and new stroller for them and now they are sitting next to each other they love it both of my stroller are GRACO it is very reliable and it doesnt brake easy. I don't know if you have the carseat already. If you call me I have a GRACO Dou Glider double stroller for sale for $80 and it is alot cheaper them buying one at babies r us which that is where I bought it last year, I also have a carseat that could go with it not the same color but one of my boys is out of an infant carseat now so I have one I am selling also
my number is ###-###-####
Let me know Thanks D.
I have a graco duo glider. I love it, its great for navigating through the isles of stores. I purchased it because it worked with the travel system I had previously and will work with all the snug ride car seats.
Hi A.,
I agree with the other suggestion of the Sit & Stand Joovy Caboose. A friend of mine has it, and I liked it so much I got the triple Joovy Big Caboose for my 2 year old and infant twins. It isn't too expensive either, around $150 I think. It is great for a two year old who can't decide if he/she wants to ride or walk...but you can buckle them in when you want/need to. It also has a car seat adaptor and will work with any infant car seat, or you can put on the tray as the baby gets older. It is great.
Good luck!

Hello,
I know this request is a little old but after reading through the responses I thought I would throw in my 2 cents. My sons are 19 months apart, currently 2 and almost 4 but we bought our double when my youngest was born. We have an Evenflo. I saw only one other write suggest that one. It takes the infant carrier in the front or back seat. The backseat does recline so my son when he was younger could still take a nap if need be. It has a HUGE basket underneath and bags on the sides for all the stuff that needs to come along. It has shades over both seats, the front shade can be pushed down and put away if not needed and does not block the second riders vision when up. But my favorite feature about this stroller nowadays is that the second rider can get in and out on his own, there is no bar in the way blocking his access. This is very nice now that my son is 4 and changes his mind constantly about riding or sitting. The back seat also has it's own snack/cup holder tray that just made out of fabric so it can fold out of the way if not needed but holds a full thermos sippy and container of cheerios steady without issue. It has three point harness in each seat and mine has two parent cupholders and storage cubby on the handle. The Evenflo was kind of hard to find, I ended up buying mine off the internet. It is heavier and larger than my single stroller (to be expected) but lighter and easier to fold than some of the other doubles we tried out. Good Luck!
We have the Peg Perego Side by side double, Aria. My boys are 2.5 yrs apart and we've used this stroller a lot. It fits through doorways, etc. no problem. I didn't want one of those big "limo" strollers due to how heavy they are. I just could not see myself lifting it to put in the car. This one is nice and lightweight and folds easily. The only complaint I have about it is the storage area underneath. Sometimes it comes undone. But other than that it is great to have.
Good luck,
L.
Hi A.,
Graco DuoGlider, and yes use it w/ the infant care seat.
I used this for my twins, and still occaasionally take them for walks to the park in it at 3 1/2. It's lasted that long. Worked great w/ both their infant car seats to walk around the mall in the winter. Sure we didn't shop, just had to get out of the house.
My friend also used a Graco DuoGlider for her 2 girls, 2 yrs apart-and had all praises for it.
I'm not that strong (well maybe now after the twins!) but even I can fold/unfold it and put it in/take out of the trunk of our sedan.
I did my research, too! Constantly compared side-by-sides vs. tandems, brands, asked around-I'm still very happy w/ the Graco DuoGlider.
(We used a Graco single travel system for Baby #1, so a bit of brand loyalty there...that's still in the garage 10yrs later!)

HI A.,
My kids are 11 months appart so I got a side by side joovy. now that my son is 13 months and she's 25m, it is awesome since they can play together and giggle.
As an infant, I did have to wake him if he feel asleep in the car but when he was very little I mostly wore him on a bjorn and used the single stroller for her.
I didn't get the sit and stand since it wasn't recommended until the older child is 2 1/2.
Yours are a little further appart so that may be a better option for you.
I have the joovy.com
Love it, great color - the blue - I get tons of compliments.
