In a salad bowl, on top of the toaster oven on the counter. There is a hot pad between the oven and the bowl so the bowl doesn't heat up. Some bagels go in there, but some in the fridge.
Man, you mamas are lifesavers....I always post on here and get great ideas....so here's my newest one...
WHERE do you put your bread in your kitchen? We usually have 2 loaves (regular / lowfat) plus buns of some kind. Right now they are just sitting on the counter. I don't want to put them in our pantry because that is out of the way and we don't have any extra cabinet space in the kitchen to store them. I know some people who put them in their microwave but we use ours a lot and that is just extra work.
Have you/ Do you use a bread box? Rolltop kind or just one that opens/closes? Thanks!!
Thanks for your insight! I found a large wooden bowl that can be used for large salads and for now have put my bread in there. I just didn't want it sitting around on our counter so thought I would see what everyone is doing. We do freeze extra loads of bread but I am surprised to see how many of you put your loaves in the fridge!
Thanks again!

i just don't understand why i'm the only person who uses the microwave! my friends all laugh at me, but it's perfect. it's already THERE (no need to put yet something else on the countertop), it's airtight, it doesn't make the bread yucky like the fridge does...it's perfect. unopened loaves stay in the freezer, but once they're opened they live quite happily in the mike.

It depends on how fast you go through it. It is best to keep it out of the light so it doesn't start growing as fast. If you don't use it very often, keeping it in the fridge will also help it last longer. If you don't want to use the fridge space, get a bread box and set somewhere out of the way.
HAHAHA My first response is the dog's stomach. Her new trick is to get onto the counter and get the loaves of bread. We go through quite a bit and usually leave them out. So I have resorted to the microwave as a breadbox. It's not too much work, we use ours all the time too.
In the summer, we keep ours in the fridge, mostly. I used to have a breadbox that was tin and had the word "bread" on the front( kind of a diner-type decor). I think I got it at World Market. I'm sure you could find one that would fit into your kitchen decor, no problem. I loved it. It was big enough to fit a loaf of bread, buns and/or bagels, english muffins, etc. I have since had to replace it with a bottle drying rack, but will break it out again after baby's off bottles.
Fridge dehydrates bread over time. Stick extra into freezer, as it thaws beautifully and has no drawback quality-wise. But fridge storage causes it to get hard edges and dried out places. Best is to let it sit out in an old-style breadbox with ventilation. You can even freeze half a loaf in separate sections, in gallon ziplocks, and take it out as needed. Unfreezes within a couple of hours, but can stay frozen for many months without damage. Makes for excellent toast too.
We have ours in a breadbox on the counter. But I do freeze extra loafs untill we're ready to use them.
In a breadbox atop the counter.
refrigerator...always
I used to have a bread box, but bread started getting moldy in there, so I quit using it. I keep the bread I am using in the refrigerator, and any other loaves I keep in the freezer to be thawed later. Works great.
We have a basket on the counter that keeps it nice and contained, but easily assessable.

I use a bread container that sits on top of our fridge.
we use a bread box. It is a way old but it still works. It has a latch cosure. I think that is the best solution, we also put our bagels on the counter. not sure if this will help. good luck
I fridge my first, current loaf. Freeze any others.
I find the bread thaws just fine to use fresh again.
We keep ours in the fridge too. Loafs of french bread are put in a plastic shopping bag and left on the counter (this keeps it from getting hard).
We keep ours in a basket on the counter too - keeps it a little more neatly contained, and my kids (6 and 8) can reach it for a quick whole grain toast snack.
we keep ours in the drawer under the silverware.
We keep ours in the fridge.

My husband has an artisan bread bakery, so we're bread experts. With artisan bread, the crust is nice and chewy but it also protects the bread. After we cut a slice, we then put the bread sliced-side-down on the cutting board - so, it sticks up in the air. Our bread stays fresh for many days this way - if it lasts that long. When you have delicious bread, you eat all of it up, and it's so much better for you than squishy grocery-store bread, or even the pseudo-bread offered at the chain bread stores. No sugar, no fat - just flavor and texture. Where is our bakery, you ask? It's called The Give Thanks Bakery (facebook.com/givethanksbakery), and (www.givethanksbakery.com). It's in Rochester, MI, right in the heart of downtown. And the European pastries are better than those found in Vienna (ok, so I'm a little biased). Fresh bread, baked in a brick oven - there's just nothing better. Well, maybe the award-winning almond croissants . . .
We keep ours in a basket on top of the fridge.
I found a breat white tin bread box at Hobby Lobby. I love it and it holds 3 or 4 loaves of bread.
I keep it in the microwave. Yes it's a pain but I don't have any extra counter space! lol :)
We keep our bread in the tall tube like bread containers all the time. They have sealable lids and as long as you leave the heel on top the under laying bread doesn't dry out, well, we use bread up in a few days. We keep our bread on top of the frige, it's out of the way, the kids don't get into it and leave it open, it is way out of the way.
I have a wooden open top box that I put my bread in and I sit the box on top of the fridge. I, too, don't have alot of counter or cabinet space. So this works best for us. I bought the box at Hobby Lobby... since I like country style items this one is kind of rustic looking and gives my kitchen an added country feel.
We put ours in the fridge, otherwise it would go bad before we get a chance to eat it all!
My parents recently remodeled their kitchen & now have a bread drawer. It has a sliding clear cover (plastic?) with a few 1/4 inch holes in it.
We don't go through bread very fast and don't make sandwiches very often, so we keep ours in the freezer. It's usually not hard to separate the slices -- and it's so easy to put butter on it to make toast in our toaster oven or peanut butter if we do want a sandwich.
We put ours in the fridge. Keeps it off the countertop and fresh longer.
I put mine in the fridge seems to stay fresher longer!
