After watching that show about coupons, you know the one where the mom buys about $1,000 and pays about $100!!!
I am inspired but how do you start?
Besides the coupons I get when I shop at Stop and Shop an a few from magazines I don't know where to get more.
I try google the product to see if I can get more but I only got websites that I have to sign and after sign on 3 websites I still haven't be able to find the coupons I need.
We have one roll of toilet paper left because I "refuse" to pay full price for it, but I am afraid if I can find anything tonight I will have to =0(
Any ideas of where to get coupons?
It is pretty cool to see a person get $1000 worth of items for next to nothing... BUT a lot of it is crud! I mean, if you really pay attention to what the extreme couponers are getting, a lot of it is super processed sodas, falvored drinks, snack bars etc... and they get them in such large amounts that I cannot imagine that they could ever use them and still be healthy. (plus things like boxed meals will still require buying meat, milk, butter... things that there are not often deals on unless they are on "quick sale" - about to expire.
And THOSE couponers do a lot of things that will get them "credit"... like they will buy 500 bottles of almost expired aspirin that are marked down to $.50, with manufacturers coupons that gives them $.75 OFF the store price so they end up with $125 worth of store "credit" to use up in that trip... trouble is - what do you do with those 500 bottles of almost expired aspirin when you get home? That is why the store was literally giving it away!
Some of those ladies and men get coupons from abandoned or repossessed homes, dumpster diving, or scouting the neighborhood.... as well as online sites and mailing lists... plus they know what their grocery stores sales are going to be every week and diligently know all of the store policies... down to the letter. It is like another part time job for them!
check and see if your grocery stores send out a mailer in the weekly newspaper, or have coupons near the front door. I would say, use common sense. If you are going to get 500 bottles of aspirin, at least donate um... most of them, to charities the troops or something... I think it is NUTS to hoard thousands of bottles of shampoo, toothpaste, or flavored water... more than you'll probably use in this lifetime when someone else might actually be able to use it (before it is 25 years expired)!
Good Luck!

checkout: hip2save.com it compiles a list of freebies and coupons, it updates throughout the day
I use coupons.com, smartsource.com and redplum.com
I also get a Sunday paper. I visit websites of brands I want to buy that week looking for coupons. For example, last week I needed to make Chocolate Chip cookies. Ghiradelli's website had no coupons. Nestle Tollhouse did! Guess what kind of chocolate chips I bought? :)
Also check http://printable-coupons.blogspot.com/ It has an ever changing list of coupons for different kinds of stores/restaurants. There are even grocery coupons on there from time to time.
Do you have Stoneyfield yogurt in your store? Their website has amazing coupons you can download every month.
Once you get going its addicting and it will be easier to find the coupons you need.
One last little tidbit. Alot of website require you to sign up to get the coupons. Make yourself a gmail account to use just for couponing. That way all your coupon stuff (and whatever spam) goes to one place and it doesnt clog up your primary email account.
Good luck!
I get two sunday papers, that is where you will get the most coupons. There is never a weekend (other than holiday weekends, where there are no coupons) there are always coupons for TP and paper towels, etc. There is also All You magazine, which is full of coupons. I also really like the Wednesday paper, at least here that is when they do the major grocery store coupons. I get awesome meat and produce coupons on Wednesdays, which are rare to find on Sundays.
The extreme couponing show is not 100% true so don't get to invested in it, but you should always be able to to TP, shaving cream, shampoo, toothpaste, conditioner, etc free or close to free if you pay attention to sales.
Little update: a lot of what they buy is "crud" or middle of the store food. But a lot of times you can get overages on that kind of stuff (meaning it's free plus extra) and that's how you can get discounts on the "around the edges" stuff, meat, milk, eggs, produce, etc. I pretty much feel that everything is fine in moderation and will occasionally eat from every aisle in the grocery store, but if I buy something I don't need I will donate it.Example: Cereal is BOGO and you have coupons for money off, it will bring the cereal down pretty far. And althought cereal lasts a long time, if you won't eat it all, you can always donate it. I have also donated things like toothpaste and contact solution, because you can often get overages on these items. :)
I agree that that show is a bit outrageous. I use coupons all the time and it is well worth signing up/regestering on some sites. It doesn't cost anything. Also the sunday papers always have loads of inserts in them.Depending on your state and the stores in your area some places double/triple coupons too. Best of luck.
Here are some of the sites I use:

hip2save.com

you can also go to product sites. We eat alot of the cambells soups. there website has coupons on it. we also eat alot of cereal so the Kelloggs website has coupons. Hope this helps you.
The Sunday paper, redplum.com (you can sign up to have them mailed to your home), websites, extreme coupon website has advice on how to get started.
Edited: Kristin C. I've found that small produce stands, butchers, and local farms have the best prices on those items at least in my area they do. During the summer I save a lot on organic dairy and produce at the farmers markets.
The filming of the shows happened about 4 years ago. Since that time the store coupon policies have changed DRASTICALLY. (I know this because they actually wanted me on the for me being PAID to go shopping like in using a 1 dollar off coupon on items that were on sale for 89 cents. They used to give the whole dollar back and now will only give you the item free not the item and 11 cents.)
There are other changes as well. I used to be able to get coupons for buy a box of X brand and get a dollar of produce. Well, I used to be able to buy only 10 cents worth of produce, buy 10 of brand X and get 10 dollars off (this was very fun to match with a coupon that gave you the item free or paid you to take the item... they now won't allow you to coupon match like that anymore either). Policies have now changed. i now actually have to buy 10 dollars worth if a produce to get 10 dollars off. The deals are there, but I can't get the 200 dollars of food and be paid 5 dollars anymore.
Now the places I find them are also changing. E coupons are really taking off. Having a Smartphone is almost necessary to getting the really good deals. You can also google the brands you buy and add coupon at the end, you sometimes hit gold. It used to buy actually snail mailing the company got you AWESOME coupons, but they are getting more lack luster (you know when they start mailing you coupons back that are worth less than it took to snail mail them, it isn't worth it.)
You need to buy the sunday paper that includes coupon inserts, Little tip they usually don't have them over a holiday weekend, so don't bother on those sundays.
Instead of just going through the coupon insert and tossing what you don't clip to use immediately, save the coupon or the whole dang insert and when something goes on sale that is when you use the coupon. The toothpaste ones are good for like 3 months sometimes. Pair that with a super sale at a drug store and you get free toothpaste.
Cant' help you wtih the Tp though I am solely a Scott girl. regular not extra anything.
