I'd like to buy my mother some really great gormet coffee for Christmas but have no idea where to get some. Do I order it online or look around at some shops in my own neighborhood? I live in the North Dallas Area.

Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I ended up getting some flavored coffee at World Market. I myself am curious to see how good it is. Unfortunately I DO NOT have a coffee pot...I use instant. HOpefully she'll like it!
Thanks to all for your suggestions!

If you order online go to www.rarecoffee.com or www.amavida.com. Both are incredibly good. Rare coffee is actually Greyfriar's out of Chattanooga, TN and Amavida is out of Walton County, FL. You can't miss with either one.

My hands down favorite coffee for espresso is what's used in Rome in most places (like Starbucks is here, or at least, here in Seattle).

Kopi Luwak is one of the (if not the) rarest coffees in the world. I have not, and shall not drink it... out of pure bias... so I can't tell you how good it is. It's made from coffee beans that have been eaten by a certain kind of cat and pooped out... but most true coffee aficionados have had it. For bragging rights if nothing else. :P But who knows? It could be amazing, and I'm just missing out! http://www.animalcoffee.com/

For starbucks... I'm a rather big fan of Casi Ciello, and any peaberry varieties... but I'm also a supertaster and so go for the complex flavor coffees. For a reeeeeeally MILD coffee, go for Kona. For bolder... arabica or columbian. On their website they give reviews of each kind of coffee in rich detail. Since it's required to work at Starbucks (practically) if you're a kid in this city... I've had most of them. They're all really VERY different from each other. Which is another option... buying several small bags, or a tasting kit!

Does she like whole beans or ground beans?

Here in Austin we have actual coffee roasters here.. all very good but different. You can order from these companies.

Andersons Coffee Their house brand is amazing. All of the best restaurants in Austin use their coffee.

Ruta Maya Nice and smokey
Mozarts REALLY good French Roast
Summer moon Their coffee beans are actually fire roasted.

Go to a Starbucks
Or Peets
or World Market Cost Plus if you have one.
Sometimes your local grocer will carry the brands I listed above.

How nice of you.

Peets has a great selection as do some Whole Foods places... I'd start with those. A good coffee shop will be able to give you some advice on what to buy if you know what your mom's preferences are.
How sweet. I love coffee as a gift. :)

You live in a large metropolitan area so you should be able to find something locally without having to order online. Call around to some local coffee shops, there is Starbucks of course but some of the small coffee companies that roast their own beans. Ask if they have any recommendations or special orders for Christmas, like Kona coffee or something else imported. It might be fun to do a gift basket with smaller amounts of several varieties so she can try something different and compare, and perhaps find a new favorite.
