When to Stop Using Sassy Crib Wedge?

Hi there :) I've been using the Sassy Crib Wedge since my daughter was born. I swaddle her and put her down on the wedge for the night, and she seems to know to sleep for an extended period. When she wakes in the morning she scoots toward her feet to kick a music toy. This means her head is at the bottom of the wedge by the time I get to her in the morning. It's been like this for a couple of months. Now she is four months old, and this morning I found her in a new position, completely off the wedge lying on her side (still in the swaddle, sometimes she gets an arm free which is fine) I read that the crib wedge is for up to 6 months, but if my 4-month-old daughter is rolling around does that make it no longer safe to put her on the crib wedge? I'll just put her in the swaddle flat on the mattress tonight to see what happens, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has used the crib wedge and I look forward to any good advice you can give. Many Thanks, *Peace*!

So What Happened?

Thanks to all who wrote me with advice :) I've decided to stop using the wedge (after a successful night without it) I'll continue using her swaddle a little longer, until I can tell she tries to get out of it (she seems to like being swaddled, only pulls an arm out to suck her fingers). Thanks again everyone, *peace*! :)

Hi Melissa,
My daughter is 2 years old and we still use the wedge. We put it under the sheet. We used it when she was a baby because she had GERD, but we just kept it in because it works basically like a pillow! I do remember when she was younger that she rolled all over the crib and it didn't do much good at that time. But, it works just fine now. I don't think there's a specific time that you have to quit using it...it's totally up to whatever works for you and your baby! Hope this helps!

By 4 months old, she probably doesn't need it anymore. In fact, she may not even need to be swaddled anymore. When she gets to the point of rolling over, having a blanket in her bed may become a safety issue.

I'm curious why you were using the wedge at all. They are not recommended unless you child has acid reflux and even then doctors recomend raising one end of the crib or matress.

I would suggest removing the wedge. It seems like it is in the way and restricting her ability to move around which is necessary for developement.

Hi Melissa! I used a crib wedge for my daughter because she had reflux but as soon as she was able to slide down it or roll off it I switched to a flat lying wedge - they sell them at babies r us. She did wonderfully with this. She was able to sleep on her side comfortably between two wedges. I am not sure the brand but maybe First Years?? Good luck! Thank goodness your daughter likes to be swaddled - mine not so much!!! Have a great day!

I've never used the wedge but I do know that you must be careful when using them due to possible suffication issues. My daughter has reflux and in order to keep her from lying flat in her crib we elevate her matress. We just folded up a few towels and then placed them under the matress. This provides an angle w/o any suffication worrries. Good luck!

I wouldn't use the wedge anymore. My daughter started sleeping on her tummy at that age & no matter how many times I flipped her, she flipped right back bcuz she was comfortable! My daughter is a roller too, she wedges herself sideways in the crib and flips from end to end. I have a bumper pad in the crib, but it's tucked about 1/2 way down into the mattress. That way she won't hurt herself when she rolls and hits the rails, but she can't bury her face in it. Don't worry about the rolling, just make sure to avoid any possible items that could suffocate them.
