I think its ok to give her a pillow now. I think that once they are able to roll over, PICK their heads up, and sit up on their own, they can have a pillow. Hope this helps
Hi All,
I have an almost 18 month old daughter and I was wondering when she can start sleeping with a pillow? She currently sleeps with a Blankie (more security than warmth) and we put a cover on her but she moves around so it doesn't stay in place.
Thanks in Advance!

She is probably old enough for a pillow. THey make smaller ones for little ones. I always gave my kids a pillow when they switched from the crib to a toddler bed... it was all part of the "exciting new bed with new blankets and a pillow".....made the transition a little smoother.
my son is 18 months and he has been sleeping with a pillow for about 3+ months. he was sick several months ago and i purchased a small wedge to elevate his head and he slept good with a pillow. just watch to make sure that if she puts the pillow over her face that she can remove it herself.
My 18 month old has had a pillow in her crib since she could roll over and sit up by herself. In fact, she has a pillow fettish! LOL I first put them in there to keep her from rolling into the bars at night.
My youngest son turned 2 in January and he has been sleeping with a pillow since he was 10 months old.
Hello,
At my son's 18 month visit I talked to my pediatrician about when to let him use a pillow and a sm comforter in his crib and she said that anytime after 18 months is what they recommend...but to make sure that the pillow isn't too dense. We started him with a small pillow...about 12"by 18" or so and one that was kind of on the this side. He loved it and is now is in a big boy bed (he just turned 2)and using a regular pillow (not too thick).
Hope this helps...R. B
I have an 18 month old son and he sleeps with a pillow. I don't know what the professionals say but I let him. I don't give him a real think one just a thin pillow. hope this helps
Hey D....I also have an 18 month old daughter and I have been letting her sleep with a pillow since she was just over twelve months. She hardly ever sleeps on it...she either throws it out of her crib or dosn't end up going to sleep on it....but either way, at least she knows it is there in case she wants it. Since she is old enough to wake up when she is hot and turns her head to the side when she sleeps, I didn't see a problem with it...I just thought she would be more comfortable. GOOD LUCK!!!
I don't remember when I gave my son a pillow. I know he was actually really young but I had to keep him propped up because he had major ear and sinus problems. Propping the bed up wasn't an option b/c he was pulling himself up at 6 and half months in bed, but he was REALLY short so he couldn't reach the top of the bars unless the bed was propped up. Even with a pillow just in the bed he couldn't reach. I think it was 10 months...ANYWAYS, my point is that he didn't use it. He would start on the pillow and end up off of it. Even now he doesn't use it, most the time after I leave the room he throws it on the floor. I know at the daycare they allow them to have pillows starting at 18 months. (When they move into the toddler room).
