When to Change to Big Girl Shampoo?

I have a three year old daughter who is going to be four in April (yes still in denial about my baby getting older) who has very long hair and I was wondering when is a good time to start using non kid shampoo and separate conditioner? She is really good about closing her eyes and I have had to use my own shampoo and separate conditioner on her this past week and it seems like her hair is much more manageable but I do not want to damage it with adult shampoo and conditioner. What is the difference between them, though? If you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I have a 4 year old daughter and use Melaleuca too as another person mentioned. I use it because it does not contain quaternium 15 as most other brands do. Quaternium 15 is a formaldehyde releaser and formaldehyde causes cancer with long term exposure plus most people are sensitivie to it which causes excema etc. Do some research and you will be shocked about some of the preservatives used in personal care products. My daughter uses the American Girl line of shampoos/conditioners sold at Bath & Body Works. Smells nice, cleans great. She likes having "her" own stuff which I certainly relate to because I like having my own stuff, too. :-) Everyone in our house has their own shampoos, soaps, lotions, etc. Everybody has their own tastes I guess, LOL.

My kids have changed and they are 4 and 7. The all in one was not really getting their hair clean to me since they are boys and sweat a lot. We have changed to the Melaleuca kids shampoo which is great for them and they love it. I am not really sure what the difference in adult shampoo and kids - I use adult conditioner on the kids but not adult shampoo. I have never really thought of the difference but will monitor your responses because that is a great question!!!

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the difference between adult shampoos and baby/kid shampoos; I'm just nervous to use adult shampoo on my 7 year-old because they seem to do more harm than good in the long run. I had to use my shampoo/conditioner on her during a vacation (we forgot hers) and after a few days her hair was feeling more dry and brittle, even though it makes my hair shiny and soft. Go figure.

So we've compromised with the "big kid" shampoos/conditioners from L'Oreal or Suave. We started her on these when she started bathing herself, around when she turned 4. She likes that they come in different scents, and they still make her hair soft and manageable like the baby shampoo did.

We actually started before she hit the 1 year mark and she is now 2. Before I switched I confirmed with our pediatrician that it was okay and she assured me that it would be fine. My daughter is bi-racial and we LOVE KeraCare...every child is different though and we went through 1/2 dozen products before we found this one. Good luck!!!
