Both my boys have eczema and we wash their hair with Cetaphil cleanser. You have to rinse it out really well but it doesn't dry out their scalp or hair.
Hello ladies. I am looking for a good two in 1 shampoo/conditioner for my kids. My son has mild eczima, so my options are a little bit limited. My daughter hates to have her hair washed, but really needs conditioner at this point (her hair is so curly and gets knots). Thanks!
Thanks for all the great suggestions! I don't know why I didn't consider using a leave in conditioner, that should probably do the trick for my daughter (as well as trying a conditioning shampoo).

My daughter's hairdresser gave some tips that really helped us. First, she said that 2/1 actually dries the scalp (or adds build-up, definite flakes) and creates more tangles. My daughter's hair was a rats' nest until I stopped using the 2-in-1. Get a nice gentle shampoo (I actually just bought Johnson's baby shampoo, and she's 4) then if she won't tolerate conditioner in the tub, get the Johnson's Leave in conditioner -- it's in a teal/aqua tube. It's AWESOME. It's basically detangler, but it leaves her hair softer and prettier than the other sprays. Plus i can just rub it on and brush it out while she's busy with a show or something.
Oh my gosh! I have the best stuff for you! Nature's Paradise makes a 2 in 1 Conditioning Shampoo and Body wash. It is 100% organic and smells so amazing! The added benefit it works wonders for eczema! My son's hair was kind of corse but now it is so soft! I started using their body washes too and my skin is so soft I only use lotion maybe once a week. I used to use it everyday. I love the scents. The Mango smells great!

Hi S.
Your email doesn't mention the age of your children, but Arbonne International has a fabulous line of baby care products that do not contain chemicals or mineral oil like many over the counter products (like some that have been mentioned). The wash is great for body and hair and the lotion and baby oil are great for eczema. There are some other products that may help too.
The products are botanically based, contain no dyes or chemical fragrances, no mineral oil, no animal by products and are never tested on animals, are pH correct and hypo allergenic.
I would be happy to provide you with a sample of the products to try, if you would like to contact me I'll send it to you.

Hi S.,
Check out a book called Curly Girl....my step-daughters and my husbands hair is amazing since we started following their instructions...it may help with the your sons scalp issues too...
Good Luck...
You have some great answers here. I would also advise checking the labels on any products you do buy. Quaternium, polyquaternium, q-10 and q-15 are some pseudonyms for formaldehyde. It is a commonly used ingredient in shampoos/conditioners as a cheap preservative. You can google individual ingredients to make sure they are safe, especially for someone with skin issues.
Hi,
I don't have any specific recommendations for shampoos, but it seems like you may want to purchase two different shampoos for the different needs of your two kids. It won't really be more expensive, because each bottle will last twice as long. Then you won't be as limited in your choices.
Good luck!

My 2 yr. old daughter has pretty long hair for her age. We just went to Great Clips to have it trimmed and they had some kid shampoo there called Kid Solutions that works great on her hair, no tangles. They also have a spray that you can use on her hair after you shampoo and rince it out. It's not expensive either, about $6 and I expect it to last a long time because we don't use but a very small bit of it to wash her hair. HTH!
S.,
Im not sure what 2 in 1 shampoo to use, but for her tangles hair, have you tried Johnson and Johnson's detangling spray? It works wonders on my daughters hair (and mine when I was a kid as well!)
Hope that helps!
Hello,
I offer a shampoo with tea tree oil which is as natural as it gets addressing excezma and dry scalp.
Our family shops here and the products are the best!
I agree with Kate B, my hair dresser advised me to stay away from 2 in 1 products as well. It's a bit of a hassle using two products, but you'll end up with better results. Jafra makes a really good kids shampoo and hair detangler. They are formulated using wheat proteins and won't sting or burn the eyes and are NOT animal tested, unlike J & J products.
Hi S.,
The problem with a 2 in 1 shampoo,is that shampoo and conditioner are designed to do very different things. Shampoo is supposed to open the cuticle to cleans the hair while conditioner is going to close the cuticle to make hair less tangled and more manageable. So given that your daughter has very curly hair, as does mine, try a moisturizing shampoo. Maybe do a leave-in conditioner when she gets out of the tub, this should take care of the tangles. For your son something mild like aveeno should help for the eczema. Hope this helps.

I don't know if this will irritate your son or not, but I haven't had any issues and I have very sensitive skin. Finesse has a two in one that works great and smells good too. I don't have trouble with tangles and I have semi-curly hair. Hope this helps. Also, target sells a detangling spray that works really well too- I spray it on after the shower and its only a few dollars--

Get a good quality shampoo like from Whole Foods or similar without SLS (Sodium Laurel Sulfate) in it. SLS is a detergent and in almost all shampoos, but it is drying both for his ecxema and her fine curls.

Try the Smoothers for kids by Suave. My daughter's hair is very fine and it works well. It comes in coconut, strawberry and mango. Suave has a lot of other shampoos, so make sure it says Smoothers. It's in with the regular shampoos (not the kids section) at Target, grocery stores, etc.
The head and shoulders brands are a good choice. For your daughter I would suggest using a humectress conditioner after shampooing and leaving a small amount in her hair. It really does alot for curly hair. My daughter has extremely curly hair and using a spray like Infusium to get the knots out then massaging some Humectress in her hair when wet really helps. Suave has a good knock-off Humectress that is good.
Hi S.. I recently found at Whole Foods Nature's Baby Organics. It's not a 2in1 shampoo that you mentioned, but the shampoo is also a body wash. I also use the conditioner as my daughter's hair is extremely thick and she hates combing/brushing it and it would get so tangly w/out conditioner. Best product of it's kind that I've ever used. The mom who created it did so because her eldest daughter suffered from allergies and eczema. Smells great, too. It is a bit pricey, but to me, worth it. Good luck.
Hi,
If you would like to try the Body Shop At Home Baby shampoo let me know, and I can stick that in the mail to you.
Good luck,
Cynthia
Dear S.,
I have very thin, fine hair and I have never found a shampoo plus conditioner that worked to the point I didn't need separate conditioner on top of it. I hope you get some good suggestions for this!
For your daughter especially, I would try one of the spray in conditioners. They help with detangling and making combing easier. My daughter had hair down to her rear end and I braided it every night to make combing in the morning easier. She was about 8 when she decided she was tired of it and wanted her hair cut. She's kept it short ever since. And she's 22 now.
Try the spray in conditioners.
It might help your son too.
