Moms,
I wanted to know when is to early to have your next baby. I have a son that is 5 and a daughter that is 3. I didn't know that my husband wanted anymore children but lately he has expressed that he wants another child. I don't want to space my children out to far because I want them to be close in age so when is the right time to have another child I feel like if I keep waiting that my children are going to be to far apart. Me and my sister are 7 years apart and we are not close at all so someone tell help me figure things out.

What can I do next?

I wanted my kids out of the baby stage before I had the next one. My kids are 2 1/2 years apart and 4 years apart. They are all close. I think it depends on the personality of the child and the parenting. I have a sister 9 years younger and we have always been close. Having another child is a big decision that you both need to agree on. It takes both of you to have an enjoyable baby stage. The great thing about older siblings is they make great helpers.

I hope you find the answer you are looking for.

There is no correct answer to your question. While it may fun for the kids to have siblings close in age, it does not mean they are guaranteed to be close when they grow up and develop their own opinions, beliefs, etc.

My brother and I are 5 years apart and we are not close at all, but we were when we were kids. However my sister and I are 14 years apart and we get along fabulously! I think it has more to do with individual personalities than age differences.

Hey T.,
I have 3 children 3 1/2, 2, and 3 mths. I never wanted to just get one out of the baby stage just to start all over, I wanted to get done with the baby stages and then be able to take vacations, and just go and do like we wanted as a family without having the worries of a small baby. While it can be very difficult at times I know they will grow up close and it is very worth it to see them playing together now. If I were you I think I would go ahead and start trying, however each family is different and wants different things. I am sure you will be happy with whatever you decided. Good luck!

Spacing them far enough apart that you don't have them all in college at the same time is the smart thing to do. My two sisters were 3 yrs apart, then Mom had a 6 yr gap between them and me. My brother was born when I was 3. We have always been close intermittently during our early yrs, and very close now that we are adults. It really has more to do with personalities. I had 3 in 3 yrs. Two of them are control freaks, so it was war during the last 5 or 6 yrs before one left for college. The 2nd and 3rd have always been close.

There is no perfect age diff. I have 2 boys 7 years apart who are very close.
I have 4 siblings of different age ranges. If I am close to any of them it is due to
personalities. If you are healed and in healthy shape and can afford another,
then why wait?

I have heard that if your kids are 6 years or more apart it is like having more than one "only child"

I would say now would be pretty good actually. If you wait too much longer you might feel out of the baby/ little kid stage for too long and talk yourself out of it. But,really, there is no perfect time..just when you are ready!! Have fun:) ~A.~

I think 2-3 years is a good gap. My husband's brother is 5 years younger, and they've never been close. I heard somewhere that the "experts" (whoever they might be) say that less than 5 years is good. But I also think it really just depends on your family and what you want. If you both really want another baby, why not start now (or soon)? If you're not sure, then wait and make sure you're ready for another one. As long as your kids are well loved, that's all that really matters!
