My brother was almost 7 years old before he lost his first tooth. The longer they take to come in the better their teeth will be.
I'm just curious at what ages your older kids have lost their teeth?
Also what does the tooth fairy leave in your house?
I've heard kids say from 25 cents a tooth to 10 dollars a tooth. That shocked me. It seems as if my daughter is the only child in her kindergarten class who hasn't lost any teeth yet. Kinda surprising to me. I'm in no hurry for my daughter to lose her teeth just curious. My daughter was born 2mos. premature and didn't get any teeth til 11mos. of age. So she was a little late I guess but I have no idea if that's because of the prematurity or not. I know she started grinding her teeth very badly a few weeks ago out of the blue in her sleep and the dentist said she may be getting her 6 yr. molars in.

I am a 2nd grade teacher and my 8 year olds are still losing teeth. I teach in a semi-wealthy school and the Tooth Fairy's prizes range, but they all like $1 coins :)
We give $1.00 per tooth
Not one of my kids lost their baby teeth before age 6 and a half 7. Our Dentist said that's actually a good thing, the longer they keep their baby teeth the better. Also heredity and nutrition are factors in determining when a child looses their baby teeth kids who eat healthy well balanced meals with little sweets and sugary drinks are more likely to keep their baby teeth longer.
My son gets a quarter per tooth from the tooth fairy.

My daughter was not a preemie and she was very delayed in losing her baby teeth. She didn't lose her first tooth until the very END of 2nd Grade. She is 13 now and just lost her last baby tooth! I'll bet that when she starts losing her baby teeth, they will come out in bursts, she may lose two or three at a time (how my daughter's came out) and the pictures will be just adorable!
As far as the tooth fairy goes, I usually consider the situation before deciding on an amount, I did the same as the other mom and increased the amount when my son needed to have two teeth pulled by the dentist. If they had a tooth that was barely hanging on, they would also get a little bit more $ if they pulled it out themselves. My son had a tooth that was actually knocked out (it had been loose for a couple days) and I gave him a little bit more for that one too. Most of the time, I give between $1 - $5. One of the really fun things I have always done for my kids is leave notes from the TF telling them how brave they were after getting a tooth pulled, or telling them what I (as the TF) was going to use their teeth for, like making jewelry or building a house of teeth! They would write notes to the to TF as well. Honestly, when they would wake up, they would be much more excited about what the TF's note said than any amount of money they received.

My daughter was 6 years old when she lost her first tooth. She was in Kindergarten, but she was one of the oldest in her class. It was also close to the end of the year when she lost it. The tooth fairy leaves 1.00 for each tooth lost. I chose 1.00 because the things that cost .25 cents when I was a kid, now cost close to 1.00, so I figured that was a fair sum.
My son wasn't premature and didn't get his first tooth until he was 13 months old. He also did not lose his first tooth until he was six. I think I gave him one or two dollars in change. Kids that young do not have a concept of money...but they like coins a lot, probably because they are shiny and look like treasure.
My daughter is 5 years old, she lost her first tooth 2 months ago, the tooth fairy gave her $5.00 for the first tooth, she lost her 2nd one 2 weeks ago and the fairy left her $1.00 for it. The fist tooth is a big deal that is why she got 5 for it. My daughter also got her first tooth at 6 months old, the 2nd tooth was at 6 1/2 months old. So far they are comeing out in the order that they came in. She also has her 2 front teeth on the top that are lose and to come out soon.
Hi B....
My oldest who is 9 lost his first baby tooth in first grade and he is now in 3rd grade and is still losing them.
I teach in an elementary school and loosing teeth is a big deal! Lots of kids don't loose their first teeth until 1st grade, some are still waiting in second grade.
My daughter started losing her teeth right before she turned 6. She lost her first right before Christmas and her birthday is in February. Her first tooth the TF left her 5 dollars (of course it wasn't me, but DH). After that she got a dollar for the others. When my oldest lost hers she got the same thing, but she also got 5 per tooth when she had to have 2 pulled.
My son lost 2 in kindergarten and a few more in first grade and only one in second grade so he has a few more to go. We give one dollar per tooth, I only got 25 cents so I think he's pretty lucky. It all depends on the family, I suppose. I wish I got $10 per tooth when I was 7!

I would say not to worry. My son turned six in December and he has not lost any baby teeth yet. As for how much they get for their teeth, I have heard that they should get more for their first tooth. $5 maybe and then $1 for each after.
My daughter is 8 and has only lost 4 teeth so far. 2 in the last month. It varies from kid to kid as to when. I give her a dollar per tooth. I started with the gold dollar but ran out and ended up giving a dollar bill on the last tooth.
My 6 yr old has not lost any yet, and she is anxiously waiting! My 11 yr old is done losing, I paid him 1-2 dollars a tooth, just finding change I had.
Right before my son turned 6, he lost the two front teeth on top AND bottom. It is so cute (one bottom has come in now) but he couldn't tear food :(.
I have a little tooth fairy pillow I bought from Once Upon A Family that they put their teeth in and then I put a gold dollar in and take the tooth. I saved the first tooth and tossed the rest. A gold dollar is more magical than any other regular coin or paper dollar. Go to the bank and buy several to have on hand because they can be hard to find.
I could tell my son was pretty creeped out by the thought of something coming into his room at night - our culture has a lot of those traditions (Santa, Easter Bunny) where strangers creep into your house :). So, we decided he could put it outside his bedroom door which is closed at night. He was more comfortable with that.
My son is almost 7 1/2 and he has only lost the 2 middle bottom teeth so far. I can't remember now if he lost them both in kindergarten, or if one was this year, in first grade, but I think at least one of them was after he turned 6.
I think the Tooth Fairy left him about 50 cents to a dollar for a tooth. I'm with you there on the 10 dollars a tooth. Holy cow!
My oldest son is almost 7 and in 1st grade, he just lost his first 2 teeth about 2 months ago and still doesn't hve nymore loose ones yet. My step son who is the same age has lost 7 already. We gave them $1.00 for each tooth for them to put in their piggy bank. I don't feel that it's too much and it's something special!
