My son is 5 1/2, and losing his first tooth. I have some gold $1 coins on hand, but not sure what the going rate is these days. I'm thinking the first tooth might be worth a little more than the rest, as it's a special thing, losing that first baby tooth...
Interested in what your Tooth Fairy leaves for your children's teeth. :)
Loving the special letter, the personalized tooth fairy, and the glitter ideas!

One dollar a tooth.
What was really funny is my ten year old is losing her last molars. She goes I know I don't believe in the tooth fairy but it doesn't seem fair that my teeth outlasted my belief. Now how do you not give a kid a dollar for that logic?

In my area the going rate is about $1 per tooth - some teeth are worth more - if it was traumatic, etc. There have been a few times when the teeth came out while we were away - and the toot fairy paid a bonus. My DD had a double row of front teeth and had to have a couple baby teeth pulled - those were worth more. There are upscale areas around here where the tooth fairy brings $5 - so says my dentist!

AWW! Big step!... my mom had given me all my 'treasures' from the Tooth Fairy that had been given to me as a child. They're all 1/2 and whole silver dollars... that's what the tooth fairy has been leaving my girls ;) Actually, the tooth fairy has been recycling the same one coin (I don't let the kids hold not them)... and when they have children of their own, I'll split them up among my kids to give to THEIR kids :)

$5 per tooth, including the first one, but with the first one the tooth fairy left a note saying congrats on losing your first tooth! The tooth fairy signed their letter with their name, each of my kids had their "own" tooth fairy. So cute! =)

Remember, you set the tone for your child(ren). I am quite aware times have changed since I was losing teeth 30+ years ago but we got a quarter. I LOVE the idea of a special coin. The one dollar coins are great because they aren't everywhere. If you have the special big deal teeth, search out a $2 bill! I don't think it is about how much cash they will be bank rolling, just a nice slice of first thing in the a.m. excitement! Don't forget to sprinlkle some glitter near the bed ;o)

A gold $1 coin is what we gave. We didn't give more for the first tooth because we knew that our son would expect the same or MORE (kiddo is crazy for stockpiling money) the next time around.
It's fun to see how excited they get when there is a prize under their pillow!!!! Oh, and don't forget to do it! This toothfairy isn't very good at remembering to leave the goods! :)

It was a quarter when I was a kid, but we have always done the $1 coins. My 8 year old daughter just lost one on Monday and got her usual $1 and said, "man I wish it was $5. Of course this from the girl who wants an ipad, cell phone, and laptop for Christmas. She isn't getting any of that stuff either.

$1.00 We used to give 4 Quarters because our daughter collected them.
If you start a tradition, make sure you keep it up. Have place for Emergency Tooth Fairy needs. You never know when they may pop, fall or get knocked out.
If you use the Gold coins, keep extras, just for this.

For the first tooth, my DD received $5. and a book that she wanted. I told her prior to the tooth fairy's visit that the first tooth was a special one and that not all of her teeth would receive as much as the first tooth. Now she gets $1. per tooth, that is until she wrote the tooth fairy asking for a "prize" instead. Last year when she turned 7 she lost her 7th tooth so that was a special one too. Our tooth fairy leaves special notes for special teeth or when DD leaves a note for her. You can have lot's of fun with this! My daughter often knows when the tooth fairy has visited because she finds glitter around the area where the tooth was. One year I told her that I was awakened during the night by a pink glow in her room and she just knew it was the tooth fairy. Now when we know the tooth fairy is coming my DD makes sure to tell the dog not to growl at her :) (the dog sleeps in her room).

When I was growing up, I got a quarter per tooth.
With my son, I gave him 10 quarters per tooth (all those coins made it seem like a lot of treasure and he had fun feeding them into his piggy bank).
For the very last baby tooth, he got 100 quarters and a sparkly note (I used some spray on glue and some very fine body glitter) from the Tooth Fairy saying what a wonderful customer he's been and she'll be checking on him from time to time to make sure he's taking good care of his grown up teeth.

When my kids lost their first teeth I would give them $5 and a note from the tooth fairy. "thank you so much for your healthy tooth! You do such a good job brushing. I look forward to many more!!"
My boys thought it was pretty great. They also were told, by me, that teeth after the first are worth $1.

One $1 gold coin, no matter which tooth! It's finding something under the pillow that is so special to the child, not the amount. Even if it were an old, beat-up quarter, my kids would probably still be excited. ;)

Wow, we must be the cheapest toothfairies in town. Ours leaves $.50 per tooth. Always has. It's also what both my hubby and I got.
My kids have never asked for anything more and are always so excited to get their quarters.

Geez.. the tooth fairy is cheap in this house... she only leaves 50 cents (2 quarter).
For the first tooth she left 2 dollars...
today she actually left 75 cents because she had forgotten the last two nights and felt bad for causing problems...

$5/tooth in our area. Found that out when our oldest brought home the "Tooth Book" from school when he lost his first tooth. Parents wrote down the story of how the tooth came out and how much the tooth fairy brought. We had to go with the going rate after he saw that book.

Most responses I've seen have been $5 for the first one, then less per tooth after - and I like the gold dollar coin idea since they are not often seen and may seem more special, and probably just 2 would be fine for a first tooth - then 1 for each tooth after that. And maybe a new toothbrush and some special toothpaste in the little sampler size.
I think for my first tooth I got a roll of pennies - so that was only 50 cents total.

For the first tooth my daughter got a gold $1 coin. It had glitter on it, and around it. Those tooth fairies are just crazy with that fairy dust! Also, got a certificate for loss of first tooth. There are lots of good sites to print them from if you google tooth fairy. For the second tooth, a dollar, not gold. Also, the amount depends on how shiny the tooth is. The better you brush, the shiner the tooth. A little motivation never hurts! LOL!

We did $1 gold coin per tooth. My kids had never seen them before and were so excited. My oldest ran around telling everyone he got gold and he will count how many gold pieces he has to remember how many teeth he has lost. We did not do more for the first tooth, but it worked just fine for us.

Before our daughter lost her first tooth we explained that the tooth fairy usually gives a little more the first time because the first tooth is special and then after that she'll get less each time. She got $5 for the first one. After that it's $2 per tooth.
