Your former employer is required by law to send it to you by January 31st. Did they have a current address for you? maybe it got lost in the mail? Was it suppose to be provided by a payroll company instead of the company you worked for? Call them and request a copy. If they fail to send it to you, report them to the IRS. And yes, the date this year is April 17th, because the normal tax date, the 15th, falls on a Sunday, so they always move it to the next business day if that happens.
eta
I changed the date I wrote to the 17th, which was what I originally wrote...then changed it because I forgot about the DC holiday...oh anyway...the 17th is the right date lol
I think this year it is April 17th. (typically the 15th of April, but that is a Sunday this year so IRS extended it).
This year the federal tax deadline is the 17th of April.
There is a W-2 dead line too, but I don't know when it is. It used to be the 31st of Jan.
Good luck to you and yours.
Federal taxes must be mailed by April 15th. Each state varies. W2 are required to be mailed by Jan 31st.
Have you contacted that employer? The deadline for w-2's is Jan 31st. But when I send them out and one comes back with no forwarding address I do not seek that employee out. It becomes their responsibility because they did not give me a correct address.
By federal law the last day of Jan they have to be out by, W2's that is. Taxes have to be filed by I believe it was the 17th instead of the usual 15 of April this year. You can get an automatic extension but that doesn't mean you won't owe interest on what you owe for the months of the extension.
So call that employer and REMIND them they had to have that to you by the 31st LEGALLY!
Income taxes must be postmarked normally on April 15th. Since April 15th is a Sunday, then it would be Monday, April 16th.
If you have a pay stub from that employer with a YTD earnings total and tax withholding use that. If not, try to guesstimate - that's all you can really do.
It like April 15 I think.
employers are required to get your paperwork to you by jan. 31. if you made less than a certain amt. (i think $500) then they should send a 1099 form instead. depends on the kind of work (are you freelance?). call them and find out why, if they say they sent it then they have to get you a new one ASAP. filing cutoff is april 17. hope this helps.
