My son will be 1 in May and he is allergic to wheat, egg white and peanuts. Does anyone know of a recipe for a cake that doesn't have those ingredients? Or a bakery that might be able to do it?

What can I do next?

Hello Jackie, If he is allergic to eggs, then it has to be both the whites and yolks. It is the protien that causes an allergic reaction, which is in the entire egg. My middle child was severly allergic to eggs, now she is in her 20's, and can handle very small amounts. This is a serious allergy and some immunizations cannot be given. As far a reciepies are concerned you can replace each medium size egg with one TBS oil & one TBS water. Good luck.

HI Jackie
I don't know of anything in Mason, but westland has a great shop Mary Denning's Cake Shoppe ###-###-####
I just had the gluten free cupcakes and they were good. Give them a call and see if they can make what you need.
The web site says "We can do the impossible when people want custom orders! Gluten Free Desserts, Sugar Free, Chocolate Lovers and more" http://www.marydenning.com/
You may not want to drive 2 hrs rt for cake however :)
So here's my fav food blog

Good luck, A. H

Jackie,

My son has 7 food intolerances and I use Namaste mixes for his cake. You should be able to use egg replacer for the egg the recipe requires, as long as your little one is not intolerant to soy.

Be warned, the Namaste chocolate cake cannot be made in the silicon pans because it is too moist and will stick. I learned the hard way and had to remake a cake that was ruined.

Good luck with your son's cake!

I know A Piece o Cake, 1-###-###-####, makes gluten free cakes. I think if you let them know about the other allergies they can accommodate them.

Also, try the Pamela's cake mix with an egg replacer.

I was just at Whole Foods today looking at their Gluten Free Baking products. I would use the white or chocolate cake mix with their egg replacer (in a box in the same aisle). Since your son doesn't seem to have a dairy allergy, what would be a sure hit is to frost in between the layers and on top with a thick layer of pure (no fillers) ice cream. Refreeze, then pull out 5 minutes before singing. That way, if the gluten-free cake is not fabulous, the ice cream will be the main attraction.

I don't know if you live in the East Lansing area, but A Piece of Cake makes gluten free cakes. I'm not sure about the eggs, but their cakes are delicious and definitely worth a try. Give them a call. They are so nice there and will probably even be able to work with you.

jackie, first of all, your child does not need cake to know its a birthday, cake is just traditional, however you can make a meatloaf and decorate it with mashed potatoes, or make a sundae , or start your own traditions, with those kinds of allergies, just do what you can, and enjoy life, D. s

I recommend the kid friendly allergy free cookbook. Lot of options for lots of kid food. Cherrybrook farm makes allergy free cake mixes as well as Namste (I think that is how you spell it.) It is in a plain brown bag. (From a mix) My whole family has eaten their baked goods. Easy to do with egg replacer. You can find them at Whole Foods and Meijer as well as other speciality markets.

Whole Foods sells a gluten free mix that is their store brand. The box is kind of pink and white gingham checked (or red and white).

You might buy one of them and make it using EnerG Egg Replacer or a gel made from flax seeds instead of the eggs. Make one NOW and try it.

We like that mix a lot. Pamela's brand also sells some decent GF mixes.

Hi Jackie -

I haven't read the rest of the responses, so sorry if this is a repeat. There is a brand (I think it may hev the word cupckae in the title) that KRoger sells. It is in a pink and yellow box for yellow cake and blue and yellow for chocolate. It is actually a very good mix. I am pretty sure is egg, wheat, dairy and peanut free.
