Ok, not really. But I certainly think they have their place when it comes to difficult-to-manage hair!
I use to just shampoo my 3 year old daughter'a hair and be enough, now she gets so many tangles, specially in the back. Right now I am using the Aveeno shampoo.
I wonder what you guys use:
-Shampoo and conditioner
-2in1 Shampoo with conditioner
-Shampoo and after shower conditioner spray
and what are the brands that work best for you.
My daughter has very long, thin, little curly hair

My daughter uses the Suave brand detangler spray for kids. Conditioner will sometimes end up just weighing down her hair. The spray smells wonderful and works great! She uses it on her wet hair before combing it and sometimes in the morning to get her hair under control. : )
Another fan of the cheap Suave detangling spray. We use it after baths and in the morning to get our daughter's long hair manageable. Have purchased pricier ones from the kid salon and found this worked just as well. Even the woman who cuts her hair complimented the wonderful smell it leaves (not overwhelming but a nice, subtle scent).
we use the suave 3 in one. its an all over wash that has conditioner. my daughter has really fine hair that tangles easily. this has helped so much! i'm so happy that i switched. and they have awesome scents too :)
Have you tried a spray detangler? I don't think I could comb my daughter's hair without one.
In the shower we use Aussie Moist shampoo and conditioner. We are sure to brush her hair before she showers(my daughter has long, thick, curly hair). Afterwards we use Garnier leave in conditioner. WORKS WONDERS!!!
But ALWAYS condition!!!!
I had been growing my 4 year old daughter's hair for some time. Then, it got so unruly. I went to the hairdresser and had 2 inches of dead hair sut off and now it is SO MUCH BETTER!! It's still long, but healthy.
We use Fairy Tales shampoo and conditioner (separate) that have lice protection. And I don't need any detangler. But additional spray in conditioner is good too.
Also, a long braid in back while she sleeps will help a lot too. Even a low ponytail will do wonders.
So a good cut about 4 times a year will help a lot!
My 4-year old daughter has lots of body more wavy than curly. I always use shampoo and conditioner (I just use what I use, which is a Bed Head line).
Then I usually put just a tiny bit more of the conditioner back in after rinsing it. Then I use the towel to remove all the excess water and THEN I put in an oil (Marrakesh Oil) or you can use an Argan Oil or Moroccan Oil. These can be purchased at a salon. A little bit goes a LONG way!
I let that sit on her hair to soak in while I rub her lotion on her and clean her ears, nose and get her clothes on. Then I always blow dry on low heat with a large round brush.
Also a GREAT tip is to get a silk pillow case(s). It really, really helps with keeping the hair from getting to crazy overnight.
the only thing that worked for my kiddies (1 with straight hair , 1curly) is the it's a 10 miracle serum from Master cuts. Works for my thick curly head too. I tried lots of other things but this seems to be the best IMO.
Always condition and brush or comb before bed
I have to keep my 4 yr olds hair "fixed" Ponytails, braids, twists. No product will keep her hair from tangling. It may detangle it right out of the bath, but the next day when she gets out of bed, it's a rats nest again, unless I braid it before bed or at least put it in 2 ponytails.
We shampoo then wash out, then we put in conditioner and leave it in while we scrub every where else (about 3-5 min depending on her) then we wash out the conditioner. In the mornings we also use the suave spray in. This seems to work the best for us. We have long thick hair just below the sholders.

I kept my daughter's hair cut chort until she was old enough to take care of it herself.
We use a two in one (shampoo and conditioner) and also use the Suave kids' detangler daily. I thin it down with water though. To make it not so heavy and greasy. Usually two parts water to one part of the spray. I spray it on every morning while brushing. My daughter has very thick wavy hair and a lot of it!
You described my daughter's hair, although maybe not as long.
I asked the pediatrician what we could use and she suggested Dove. So we use Aveeno wash/shampoo and Dove conditioner. I don't even brush DD's hair. I comb through with my fingers while it's being conditioned til the tangles are gone, and I try to keep it in pigtails or something during the day. If her hair is long enough to braid, consider doing that after a bath so you can just undo it and voila! untangled hair in the morning. That's what we did with DD's big sis before she started to deal with her own hair.
When my niece visits, I put the the conditioner on and comb out her hair before I rinse it. I also only use Shaklee 's nontoxic shampoos and conditioners.
