ok this is kinda funny but its not.Yesterday we went to our time share and they have the work out room there.Well my 11year old son almost 12 wanted to jog on the tred mill,so he set it then stepped on it and he was not moving fast enough he flew off the end of it and the tredmill ripped his pants right off his body.lol poor kid of course he was with 5 other kids when this happened. so to hear the kids telling me what happened i couldnt help laughing.just to picture this room full of people and my poor kids pants are around his ankles but anyways he know has rug burn or burns from the tredmill on the top of his knees and upper legs its pretty sore and he tried wearing shorts so the jeans arent rubbing it. the school got on his case this morning about wearing shorts to school because its winter and theres a code in the handbook that says shorts are prohibbited until june or something like that so anyways im looking for something to help heal this so its not so sore to wear pants something that will heal fast and take the sting away.any clue on what to use we tried bag balm so far.

What can I do next?

Hi A.-
Usually these kinds of floor burns or scrapes, as WebMd calls them, heal on their own, but sometimes complications arise. I've had a couple of these on my knees in my life. One summer while wearing shorts, I fell on a sidewalk and scraped my knee. It didn't seem like a big deal at first, although it really hurt. I cleaned it with peroxide and then continued to clean it with peroxide, which is wrong. It didn't heal and I finally went into the doctor who said I was on the verge of blood poisoning. So, my lesson there was to clean once, then let it heal. The peroxide was killing off the good bacteria that was trying to heal the wound.
That said, I don't know if there is really anything that you should put on it. It needs to develop a scab to heal and putting ointments, etc. on it might prevent that, as I did. Read the WebMd page I found for you and make sure it's not infected and/or check with your doctor.

Keep an eye on it and if you see a red streak running from it, get to the hospital immediately, as that's a sign of blood poisoning. I'm sure that won't happen, but just be aware.
As for the pain, I think you should have the doctor give your son a note so that he is able to wear shorts to school, assuming he won't be walking in cold weather! I don't know if it's good to wrap anything around it, either. The air helps dry it and makes the scab, I think. I would call the doctor first. The school can't argue with him/her. Good luck.

Hi A. D.,
What a funny situation to be in, poor guy. Just tell him that he will laughing about it someday when he is telling one of those "most embarrassing moments " stories. I am writing to recommend a product called Nu-skin. It is sold at the drugstore and it is in a nail polish type bottle. You brush the nu-skin over the sore and it leaves a protective layer over the sore so the skin won't continue to break open and then it can heal faster. I only know about this because my mom has very sensitive skin and she went to have her hair colored and they used a different hair dye and she received burns on the back of her ears. This nu-skin was the only thing that would keep her hair off the sore so that they could heal. Worth a shot? Hope it goes well. Good luck.

Now that's something to talk about when the family gets together for years!! (lol) I'm thinking Neosporin or even A&D (not just for diaper rash) would be the way to go. Heals faster and protects the area. If it's really rubbing when wearing pants, put a bandage/patch over it so the jeans rub the patch, not the tender skin.
Hope he's not too embarrassed. Could happen to anyone, including adults. At least it was far from home and not in front of his friends. ;)

Diaper Cream will take care of the rash quickly and will provide some relief. Also, it will make it easier for him to wear pants without feeling uncomfortable.

Poor kid. Try an aloe lotion or aloe gel and the put gauze bandages over the burns, that should help.
