Ok I am due the first of April and I am just trying to get prepared. This is my second child so I remeber the "must haves" but I was wondering if there was anything someone could suggest to take that I have not thought of. I am also conserned about my son~ he will be two the same week I am due. I was just wanting ideas to pass the time while we wait (besides movies). He will not be at the hospital while I am in labor or at night just during the days. Thank you for any suggestions!

A couple of weeks before I was due I took my 2 year old shopping and let her pick out a present for the baby. In my hospital bag, I took a present for my 2 year old that was from her new brother(which included books & etc, stuff she could do at the hospital). When she came to the hospital to see her new little brother she brought the gift for her brother and he had a gift waiting for her. She was so excited and really felt like she was a big part of her new brothers life.

When my little guy was due, I brought lots of quarters for the vending machines. I'm not sure if you needed this for your first child or if you have even thought of it, but when my son was born his finger nails were so long he kept scratching himself, so a good set of baby nail clippers might be good. As for your son, his favorite toy and some real yummy snacks that he don't normally get at home. Good luck and congrats!

Hello Y.,

the trick is variety. crayons, plain paper, coloring book, books to read. leapfrog products, leap pad, etc. you may want to start recording some of his favorite shows so he can watch them 'on demand'. any chance you can set up a couple of play dates so he doesn't have to be at the hospital for too long? does he like any board games? candyland, uno, domino?

look up games to play during long car trips...or long plane ride... the waiting is almost the same. =) Good luck and congratulations! ~C~

Hi,
First, congratulations and Good Luck, everything is going to be GREAT! Don’t forget to pack a pair of socks or slippers, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, hairbrush, extra panties (you might/will probably bleed through pads) comfy cloths for the ride home, a list of phone numbers to call with good news, an outfit for your baby to wear for his first picture (they will let you change him) and for the ride home, nipple cream and nursing pads (if you will be nursing), baby book to capture feet prints, camera (extra batteries/memory/film) ink pen for capturing special memories and recording his feeding schedule, and the car seat!

As for your other child, I would suggest a 24-piece puzzle, Aqua doodle, play-dough, crayons and we gave our older son a 4-wheeler as a gift from the baby! He thought the baby was great and couldn't wait to thank him... cut through the jealousy issue :-()

You will do great, let us know when you are home!

Your own pillows in colored pillow cases (so you don't confuse them with the hospitals when you leave). That was the best thing I took! :-)

My recommendation is simple and very easy to pack...Chapstick! It was wonderful to have during labor. In fact, I think it was the only thing I actually used of the all the other things I packed for my hospital stay.

LOTS of snacks! Lol I didn't realize how much I wouldn't like hospital food... I mean I worked at a hospital and our food was great but this one I went to wasn't that good. And bring extra pairs of clothes for your newborn cuz when my baby was born I didnt know they were gonna take pictures of her and I had just brought her the "going home outfit" It was a little too big and I had stuff at home that was smaller and cuter that I wish I brought along. They even let you have your own props so it just depends on where u stay.

Hey Y.!! How exciting!! I am just a few weeks behind you!! I was in the dr waiting room reading Pregnancy Magazine and there was a list in there--it mentioned taking an i-pod, magazines, lip balm, (you forget how dry your lips get) snacks, one dollar bills for vending machine. Everything else is pretty much everyday things you will want to take. Definitely slippers to walk down to the nursery--and to & from restroom & bathtub. I am taking my own pillow and pj's too. I hate their gowns! Good Luck & CONGRATS!!! :)

don't forget to take your own bath soaps and scented lotions. I forgot with my first and had to have my husband bring some up....I can't stand the prepackaged generic hospital soaps-
I also like to take my own pillow in a case that isn't white so it doesn't get lost with the hospital linens. You probably have these on your must haves list, but just in case-
Good luck to you!
