Hello, my daughter will be 1 next month. Her doctor says it's getting close to time to wean her off of formula and onto food...I do have 2 other kids however it's just been so long ago I just don't remember what I fed them, but what I do remember is always being afraid of them choking lol. My daughter only has 2 bottom teeth at almost a year old...my boys had several teeth at her age. I'm just really unsure of what I will be able to feed her. Any advice appreciated. :)

What can I do next?

The number of teeth really doesn't matter, they can gum anything soft cooked. Have you been feeding her baby food? She can have the chunkier ones now. Yes, they can eat most veggies soft cooked, like potatoes or carrots cooked soft. Eggs. Cherrios. Let her pick it up and feed herself. Does she take a sippy cup? A bit of whole milk in it. You can do this!

At that age I fed my children whatever we were eating just in tiny pieces. I remember a few favorites of my children were(all homemade)spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, fresh fruit, steamed vegetables such as green beans or broccoli and of course fun things such as yogurt, applesauce, and smoothies but they also knew how to drink out of a cup and/or through a straw. Feed her whatever she enjoys and always offer new tastes and textures but there's no rush in feeding her table food if she is just not interested --- some children take longer than others. Realize that while her doctor is recommending you make the change you can never force a child to eat and mealtime should never be a stressful time. Good luck. :)

Is she eating baby food. My granddaughter will be one next month too and really will eat any table food and then we follow with her baby food. She just does not eat enough table food yet. Breakfast she has eggs, or pancakes, French toast, lunch is whatever I have left from dinner. Meatballs pasta, chicken, really anything. She too only has two bottom teeth. Dinner is whatever her M. and Dad cook. Maybe some yogurt too.

I've got a super picky 10 month old and I've tried a ton with her- steamed carrots, broccoli, mashed potatoes, mandarin oranges, bananas and about every kind of organic toddler puff and cracker. She may eat a bite or two of any of those things (she detests baby food), but the only thing I can always get her to eat is yogurt. She still nurses a ton and I'll start introducing whole milk when she is a little closer to the one year mark.

Go to the local library and check out 2 books. They give you lots of good ideas for foods for the kiddo's.

Here are the books that I used almost exclusively.

http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Toddler-Meals-For-Dummies/dp/0...

http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Idiots-Guide-Feeding-Toddl...

I also bought a food chopper by Pampered Chef and used it every meal.

I whacked each part of food about 15 times. It made the pieces about 1/8". The kids don't choke if you feed them small bites.

My kids liked all kinds of chopped up fruits (grapes cut into small pieces, strawberries, peaches, oranges etc), some veggies (roasted squash, peas), Cheerios, eggs (hardboiled/diced, or even scrambled). My oldest was pretty adventurous and would eat anything (sashimi, Indian food...). My youngest pretty much regarded all new foods as poison. If your baby likes new foods, then you could just cut up whatever you're eating into small pieces for her. I know you're supposed to only introduce one food at a time, but we don't have any history of allergies, so I just kind of ignored that advice and fed them whatever I had on hand. :)

I used this site as a guide, it's great because it includes recipes and sample meals to help you feed your child healthy. Here's what she should be eating at her age, you can go to other charts as you need them.

And, believe it or not, her gums are strong enough without teeth to bite and chew :)

Yo baby yogurt, cherrios, mandarin oranges, baby puffs, small pieces of cheese, small pieces of pasta, banana, etc. Also, when you wean her off the formula, add milk slowly. The first day add 1/4 milk to the formula , two days later make it about 1/2 milk , and so on .

she can eat almost anything.. as long as you cut it up small.

canned fruit and canned veggies are soft and easy to eat. (rinse canned peaches or they are too slippery.)

cut up grapes in 1/4s or smaller .. blueberries cut if big or she can eat whole.

shredded cheese is easy to pick up.

goldfish crackers, cheerios... crackers in small pieces.. my kids did toast too. they were able to manage it.

When my kids were that age (or earlier), they would just eat what we were eating. Either cut it up into small peices or put it in the blender. You'll be surprised at what the can do with their gums. Another kid friendly website is www.weelicious.com. Good luck!
