Hi Moms,
Do any of you know of a place that will accept used packing peanuts? I have a huge box of them and I don't want to throw them out because they aren't recylcable. They are brand new - I just received them in a huge box from a shipment. My local post office doesn't take them. Have any of you found a place that accepts them?
Thanks! And Happy Halloween!

So What Happened?

Hi Moms! Thanks for all your feedback! I never even heard of Freecycle until you told me. I'm definitely keeping a bag in case I do an art project with the kids too - especially with Christmas coming, they could be good to use as "snow". I also checked with UPS - they will take them at one of the packing stores near me. Thanks again! I appreciate all your responses!

I live in Arlington Hts and there are some private shipping stores that welcome them. The UPS stores could be worth a try to.

Definitely Freecycle or free section of Craigslist. Anyone who is moving would love to have them.

Depending on the type of packing peanut it is, some are biodegradable. Like a previous response, if the peanuts are not the styrofoam ones, you can use them for art projects. Just slightly wet one end (we usually wet a papertowel and then press it against it) and stick it to the next peanut. The kids LOVE making creations...plus they will just desolve in water, which could be a really fun science project (because they are made out of carnstarch). Have fun and good luck!

I've had success Freecycling them and any other odd packing materials/boxes too.

You can also check local shipping places like UPS store and such. They will often take them.

Good luck!

I saw someone make a cool woolly sheep that was spray painted black. I agree that kids would love to use these for artwork. I would keep a bag just in case you want to send something out for Christmas/birthdays.

Just a thought, but maybe the kids can make a craft out of them? That is one way to recycle also.

Maybe Freecycle them? I'm constantly amazed at what else people want/need.

I learned you can use them in your hanging baskets. I did it this year and they turned out great and weren't as heavy since I didn't use pebbles.
