Don't worry you do not have to plug her ears. The noise wont bother her she can tolorate just about as much as you. If she doesn't like noise she might get fussy. Most of the time the loud noise soothes them because of the vibration. I know my son love loud noises at that age. Have fun she will to.

I had a similar situation this past summer. We attended a party outside and there was a dj and the music was crazy loud. i had my son in his carseat inside the stroller and placed a cotton birp cloth on each side of his head, covering his ears. he slept through most of the party.

go to the party and enjoy yourself. the baby, like the other moms said will probably sleep through it. i am a varsity cheer coach and my son was 10 days old when my football games started. the band & the fans didnt bother him at all. just remember to not change your plans, the baby will always fit in! it makes it so much more enjoyable if you arent missing out on the family/friend activities. have fun at the party!

I took my daughter to her big brother's Kindergarten Thanksgiving and then the Christmas show. She was 2 months old and then almost 3 months old at the shows. I was worried she would fuss or cry or the kids singing (and we all know how loud a group of out of key 5 year olds can be!) would bother her. NOPE!! She slept through the whole thing..both shows.

Babies are very resilent and adjust to their surroundings quite easily. My only advice would be not to put him too close to the speakers.

Have fun!

I brought my pack-in-play and parked it clear on the other side of where the speakers were. Also, when I didn't want my baby to be held anymore, I put her in there and told people that she gets really CRANKY when she's held too much because she starts to OVERHEAT. That worked really well because nobody wants to be the blame for making a little baby unhappy! I even got comments like, "Oh, okay. I understand and I know you want her to sleep good tonight. Too much holding might make her a little overwhelmed." Whatever you do, I'm sure the baby will be fine. Have a great time!

I would not put anything in his ears. Just keep him away from the speakers and he should be fine.

We'vebeen to functions with an infant in tow. We've just brought the bigger, super comfy stroller so they could sleep, and we always made sure in advance there was a room elsewhere where we could take the baby if needed (and to nurse without all the distracting noise around). Have fun!

A hat that covers your little one's ears may help a bit.

I think I would just try to avoid being too close to the speakers...it scares me to think about putting something in his ears.

I don't see the harm in a few cotton balls. I would just keep him away from the speakers as much as possible. Maybe take turns walking him around away from the loud music.

my son was about 5 weeks old at my sister in laws wedding and reception - what we did that seemed work - and didnt seem to bother him - we took the stroller right into the reception - then with the stroller being around him it seemed to block out some of the noise - make sense? we also tried to keep him away from the noise as much as we could (well away from the speakers)

but i will forewarn you that everyone and their brother is gonna wanna hold her - so if you arent ready for that then you may not want to bring her. The noise didnt bother my son at all really - and neither did being held -and on a good note with being held usually people hold them in the traditional baby hold (swaddling like) and that shields the ears too - or up on the shoulder and one ear will be covered then too -

you will be fine! hope the info helped!

Hi J.,

Your newborn will probably sleep through the entire party! Babies are used to loud noise - when they were in your belly, there were lots of loud noises and many babies are soothed by noisy rooms. My son used to love Red Robin because it was so noisy. I would say find a place far away from the DJs speakers so that you are blasted by the noise and enjoy yourself - your baby will likely sleep the whole time!!

I would check with the pediatrician. I think putting something in the ears would be very dangerous-- earplugs are adult sized, and anything small enough to go in a baby's ear would be a terrible choking hazzard. I'd say just go, and then if you are concerned that it is too loud for the baby, then leave

Your baby should be just fine. As long as your not right in front of the speakers. I wouldn't recommend putting anything in the ears.

Personally, I would hesitate to use earplugs or cotton balls let alone anything in the ear because it can be dangerous. The baby would probably not mind the music but it is important to protect his/her hearing. So I commend you for thinking ahead. I would check with the pediatrician to see if using a hat or rolled up blanket would be sufficient. I know there are ear headphones specifically made for protection from noise but they may be too big for the baby. I have seen them on toddlers at concerts and other loud events.

Good luck and have fun at the party!!!

I suppose you could do cottonballs.
I would also highly suggest that you carry your baby in a sling. Being so close to you will help to drown the noise out some (especially if you pull the fabric up by baby's ear & have baby's head against your chest).

Of course, I suggest a THING-A-MA-SLING Baby Sling, but I'm biased! :-) If you live anywhere close to Easton, I can get one to you this weekend, if you don't already have one.

Have fun!!!!!!

You can try ear plugs or cotton balls- I work in a hospital and find that they do not stay in, nor do they work very well. Maybe try rolling up a blanket (like for head support) but make it thick so that it covers DS' ears. Just stay as far away from the dj as possible- hopefully baby will sleep!

Do you have one of those snuggly type carriers ? That way you can hold him or her, and not pass the baby all around if you don't want to. :-) It'll help avoid cold germs.

I don't know about ear plugs or cotton balls -- but a hat would help some. I'd be concerned about putting things in my infant's ears. I'd be more inclined to leave the baby home if the music were going to be so loud that it's problematic.

nothing in ears at all would push wax in. Might not be that loud. relax and enjoy. Don't sit by speakers and if too loud good reason to leave early.

I took my youngest to a wedding reception with a dj when he was 4 weeks old. The noise didn't seem to bother him (he even danced with the bride). Fortunately for me, it was May and I was able to take him to the car to nurse him and give him a break. We also left fairly early. My best advice is to take any cues from the baby and not be afraid to leave early if he is fussy. Have fun while you can though!
