What to Do About FedEx

Weird question, but.... I ordered an item from Amazon, and from the tracking info, it's been sitting in the FedEx warehouse for a day and a half. I finally got in touch with someone (at a call center, not the actual place), and they said it hadn't been delivered due to weather. The weather here has been clear and sunny for several days and the roads are clear!! The item itself, though important, isn't annoying me so much as the principle of it-- the fact that they can just refuse to deliver something (when I paid for next-day shipping) with a fake excuse. And to make matters worse, by the time they told me the truck will go out, we really WILL have bad weather, so it's going to be a week before I get my next-day order. Other than the BBB, does anyone know what recourse I have?

So What Happened?

Thanks, everyone-- I know the weather at the warehouse is fine, because it's only about 20 minutes up the road from us, but I hadn't thought about the truck thing-- that the trucks might just not be available to deliver everything. I guess I'm just annoyed that I wasn't contacted, because I could have easily picked it up, and also the attitude I got-- impossible to talk to anyone locally and then the rep I talked to swore that our hub was the only one in the country that only shipped during regular business hours-- as though things aren't in transit all night long, which I know is true! I'll let you all know if/when I finally get it!!

Major shipping has to deal with not just LOCAL weather, but trucks and planes that get stuck (so they don't have a truck to put it in, or are 3 shipments behind) from trucks and planes that get stuck in other locations. I have a girlfriend who works UPS here, and it's a common logistical probelm. Trucks snowed in in the mountians in Idaho that they need here in Seattle in order to get things moving. Ditto, when the roads open they'll have 5times the ordinary "pile" to get moving. So they'll have every shift working doubles and still not be able to get caught up. 5 days of work in 1 day is just impossible, even if they had the trucks to do it. So the "oldest" goes first. AKA the person who ordered 1day and has been waiting 5 days will get theirs before the person who ordered 1 day and has been waiting 3.

They'll refund on the wait.

Call Amazon. They have a lot more pull with FedEx than you do. It will be up to Amazon to refund your shipping charges, track down your order, and/or re-ship it if necessary. You paid Amazon for this, let them figure it out!

If it has been sitting at FedEx for 1 1/2 days it tells me it arrived there on Saturday. Unless there was extra paid for specifically Saturday delivery then it wouldn't be delivered until Monday. Maybe the bad weather was prior to the arrival at that location (making it arrive on Saturday rather than sooner). In which case, there may be nothing you can do. You could contact Amazon and they may provide you some sort of credit for the delay. You also didn't say where the FedEx hub is. Is is possible that although your weather is fine, their's is not?

Are you sure it's due to weather in your area. Just because it's sunny in north Carolina does not mean it is everywhere else. It snowed Friday and Saturday up here.

You can contact amazon and request a refund on the two day shipping, unless you have prime and you had it for free. You can refuse its delivery but just for info, same thing has happened to me. My box has been sitting in NJ since last week (due to weather) yet just yesterday we had snow. It hasn't snowed in 2 weeks here. Now it will be delayed some more, so when it gets here I will refuse the delivery.

Go to the warehouse and pick it up.

We've done that several times when we were not home to sign for something.

We deal with FedEx a LOT with our business and Fed Ex has always had great service for us and worked out issues quickly.

I have something I ordered that is supposedly still sitting in Bloomington, CA, since Jan 6 2:58 AM. It still says it's on track for delivery on Tuesday! I'm in Alabama... lol So this is 3 1/2 days of sitting in one place, according to the tracking. Now, the other day I looked up the weather in Bloomington. Nothing wrong as far as I saw. But here? Yeah we are about it get it good, according to the weather guys...

I did sign up for FedEx's email where they are supposed to let you know if there is a disruption of service. I also wrote down a number you are supposed to call to confirm any disruption. Not sure if it's the same number you called: 1-800-463-3339

I'm not sure what else you can do except keep calling FedEx and see how far up the chain you can speak to. Good luck!! I hope we both get our items!

You need to remember that just bc the weather in your area is nice the weather is not always nice on the other side. Their main hub is in TN which the weather is not always nice there-other people do get snow. The packages move not only by plane but also by truck too so they may not be able to move it due to weather. My hubby works for Fed Ex so I know. L. :)

Are you sure the item has been sitting due to weather in YOUR area or was it due to weather in the area from which it came?
