I think $10 is the going rate for an adult babysitter, so I would think $8 is okay. I think the minimum wage for a job right now is $7, so I would not pay less than that.
My husband and I are going out with some friends and will be using a 16 year old baby sitter. We have a 1 year old daughter. We have no idea how much we should pay her. I was hoping to I may get some insight from other mamas! We'll be using her for about 4 or 5 hours Sunday night. She will have to entertain her then put her to bed about half way thru her time.
Thanks for all the responses. There is certainly a pretty good variation on what people pay. We felt since atleast half the time our 1 year old daughter was sleeping, we would pay on the lower end. We paid her $45 for 6.5 hours which worked out to be about $6.92/hour. Hopefully that was enough and she'd want to sit for us again. We wouldn't be able to afford going out if we paid much higher than that for 1 child. I feel better knowing that $5-7 is still being paid for 1 child. Thanks!

I would say about $8/hr, but ask her what she charges and then you can negotiate from there.
We pay our 17yr old babysitter $7/hr for 1 child and $10 for 2 children (sometimes my oldest is at her fathers).
Wow! To the 13yr old that makes $10 an hour to watch a 2 yr old. No disrespect but I think that's way too much!
We usually do $5 for 12-15 year olds and $6-7 per hour for older teenagers--depending on how long the kids will be awake for the babysitter. My kids go to bed at 7:00, so I don't feel I need to pay them $10 an hour for them to sit at my house and watch tv or text while my children sleep.
My 16 yr old only charges 5.00 pr hour.
My daughter is 13 and gets paid $10 per hour to watch a 2 year old
It is about $5 per hour.

It is about $5 per hour.
My daughter is 15, but will be16 in a couple of weeks. She charges $5.00 a hour for 1 child and an additional $1 to $2 for any additional kids depending on their age. When she has her driver's license and can come and go on her own I think maybe she could charge another $1.00 a hour.
