Hello Ladies,

I have been out of the babysitting business for as long as I can remember. I haven't even hired one for years as my child is now a mother. Soooo, I was hopeing you ladies could tell me the going rate for a teenage babysitter hourly for one 4 year old.

Thank you in advance!

T.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your prompt responses! So, I ended up paying the sitter what she had made before for another family and it was the median of the responses I got here. She got $7.50 plus a small tip for being so readily available.

Hi T.,
I use two different teenage babysitters and they both charge $5/hr, and that is for both of my kids (who are 4yrs. and 5yrs). I don't exactly know if that is the "going" rate or if we just get a great deal :)

Sounds like quite a variety of prices! I had a hard time deciding what to pay/charge when I moved to the Seattle area from the midwest. The rates seemed quite a bit higher. I have always been under the impression from the rates of daycare centers and friend's experiences that newborns are the most expensive and they get cheaper as they get older, but I see a previous post commented contrary to that, so . . .

I think the variables are how "high demands" is your child, how old the sitter is, and how well do you know each other? I also make sure to be very consistent with my college-age babysitter, because I like her so much, she has her own car, and I want her to always know how much she'll get so she can decide if it's still worth her time.(I really hope it is because I love her!)

So, to wrap up, I pay $8/hour for my three kids ages 2, 6-next-month, and 8. I get paid $6/hour when I'm watching my friend's kids while she and her husband work (we don't charge each other for dates, only for during work hours as actual daycare). Her girls are 4 and 6.

Good luck!

Hello! I have a 7yr old and a 4yr old. My rate of pay doesn't change whether the babysitter is a teenager or an adult or is needed during the day or in the evening. Both of my children require attention as my 7yr old likes the sitter to play video games with him and my 4yr old likes the sitter to play toys with her. Given that, I pay my sitters $5/child/hour. That means if the sitter is watching both of my children, I am paying $10/hour. In addition to the rate of pay, I leave money for the sitter to have food delivered and I make sure my pantry is stocked with beverages and snacks. Hope this helps!

I pay a 12-13 year old $5.00 an hour for one kid, but I am also at home while she is here and only leave occassionally.

I haven't had a babysitter for over 15 yrs, but at that time is was $5 an hour for a sitter that 14 yrs. old, if they were sitting for 2 or more hours. If it was less than 2 hours, they always got $10 for their time. If the sitter was 16 or older, they got minimum wage for our area, as they could be working at McDonald's for that amount and they have far greater responsibility in watching my children. That and I wanted to establish a relationship where if I needed them they would be available. We always drove them home or paid extra for gas if they drove or their parents brought them and picked them up. There were no sitters in our neighborhood, I usually relied upon the girls that I babysat when I was much younger.

I'd say around $6/hour. I pay $6-$8 or $10/hr for adults for my 2 kids

I pay 5 per hour for 1 kid and from what I know this is the rate around hear for a teen sitter. Older ones are 10 per hour. I get paid 10 per hour to watch one of my friend's girls but I would take her any way... I have two friends that are profecional sitters and they charge 15-20 per hour, depend on the kids ages and needs. The 20 one is a special educator, too. Hope I was helpful!

I pay $5 an hour for 2 kids (4 and 6) with $5 to start, so 2 hours is $15, 3 would be $20 and so on. For one kid I would say $3 an hour with $5 to start.

wow I live in an expensive area I guess. I pay at minimum 10 and usually around 13 but I know of college girls who charge 15. I have three kids and weather they are watching 1, 2 or 3 they get what I always give them so I don't add per kid. Alot of times it is easier to watch 2 or 3 kids rather than 1. I don't know anyone who will watch kids for only 5 dollars. The best thing to do it ask the babysitter before you book her. You don't want to be surprised and you don't want to short change her.

I pay $6 hr. for 2 kids. The going rate out here is higher ($6-$10), but my sitters are on the younger side (12-14).
