Sorry about my initial request, my computer burped and posted before I could type...

So, what's the deal with Aldi Stores? Two have opened within my area and I've never been to one. Are the prices REALLY as good as I hear? I've heard the produce isn't worth it, is that true?

Just curious. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Most of there prices are really good. I got milk there for $1.99 while it is over $3.00 at Walmart. Butter $1.79 per pound over $2.50 at Walmart. I think you just need to compare by stopping by. I would say that there produce is not the best but there is so many stores you can buy great produce. (Joesph's in Crystal Lake, Whole Foods, etc) There is a market out in Lake in that sells great product. The old Cubs store.)Remember they don't provide bags but you can purchase them. And you need a quarter to use a cart. You get it back when you return the cart.

It's pretty good for some of my purchases. Check it out.

There are some good deals at Aldi's. Matt's chocolate chip cookies are cheaper that's for sure. well, they used to be there last year..There aren't that many recognizable brand names, some but not that many. They say the big stores buy many of the same products and slap their own labels on them and jack up the price. So Aldi's likes to toot their horn about their lower prices.

I saw some show about Aldi's one time. They put their own labels on it and sell it cheaper (mainly becuz of their NO overhead). Don't expect to get ANY help or even remotely friendly customer service. I have never seen such depressed and disgruntled cashiers and many of their customers are too, YIKES!

They are building a new one in Cary and if that place doesn't improve in brand selection and environment.. I'm driving right by.

One of the things I don't care for is the environment. The store is so depressing and there is absolutely nothing attractive about it at all. C'mon.. how about making it sort of IKEA like with some affordable and funky ways of displaying their products..?

You may save money but they have you definitely work for it- from the paying for your own darn shopping cart to not getting things bagged by anyone but yourself. And they hurry you through the line like you are cattle. So stressful. Hey I'm all for looking for deals but geesh, that experience is so not worth it!

I'm used to trader joes and whole foods with all of the free and healthy samples they give you to munch on while you shop and their variety of healthy products. I don't care for the limited selection of brands Aldi stores carry.

Their brand products are LOADED with transfats and all sorts of nasty stuff. Check out the labels and you will see what I'm talking about. What's the point of saving 50 cents or whatever if you are going to clog your arteries?? I believe you can eat healthy on a budget and not buy that junk.

well.. don't mean to be a downer on Aldi's but I hope they do improve in their new stores. Until then, no thanks. If you are looking to have an enjoyable shopping experience and to purchase healthy food, drive on by Aldi's for sure!

Hi there!

I sometimes shop at Aldi's... I however will NEVER buy their milk again!!! I bought it and although the date was fine- two times it smelled and tasted spoiled! That ended that for me. I would rather pay more and make sure I drink it then try to return it! I also have had a problem with the produce there. It looked all red and shiny on the top of a tomato but underneath it was all bruised and had some major Ewwwwwwwww going on also!

I do buy the canned veggies from there as well as some of the shredded cheeses, Chicken Kievs and their frozen meatballs. Their meatballs are really good oh yeah and so are their BEEF hotdogs! The major negative thing I have also noticed at Aldis- alot of their foods are higher in carbs, calories and sodium. So watch your nutrition labels as well.

I am trying to do everything to save money- We are now shopping at Woodmans and Caputos in LITH or Algonquin- not sure which. Anyhow, it is quite a drive for us but we have gone from spending over $225 a week to about $150 compared to shopping at the Super Walmart alone.

Caputos has WONDERFUL produce as well as a huge selection and usually great sales on their meats compared to Jewel, Dominicks and Walmart.

Woodmans- almost everything is less than at even Walmart but know your prices. I know not to get soda there if it is on sale at Jewel or Dominicks and also all my paper goods and cleaning supplies as well as diapers and what not I get from Walmart.

I hope this info helps you and you are able to save some $$$$$$$$$
Blessings to you!

I find their selection limited, their food sometimes bad (produce) and prices higher than woodmans.
