Hi M., First of all let me say that I am happy to hear he is 19 months and you want to get him his first potty Chair, and not waiting until he is 2 or 3 so kudos to you mom. Any potty chairs made from fisher price, little tikes, the one I have for my daycare baby's is Baby Connections, I have the foot stool and potty chair that match, and it has a litle handle that when you push it down it makes a flushing sound, and say's all done. Here's a tid bit of advice, let your son sit on the potty chair while watching something he really enjoys, my first born (a son) when he was 19 months I started potty training him, one of the easiest things I've ever done, anyway he liked to watch the price is right, so I had him sit on his potty while he watched it, and it's an hour long show, but he always sits and watches it anyway so hay it worked during that hour something was bound to happen, and the iceing on the cake was, at 19 months he started reconixing his numbers by watching the price is right, it was veru educational for him, by 20 months he was completely trained and was going on his own. Hooe this helps

I think that the best advise is to let him pick one out himself. My son is almost 3 and just now ready to start the potty training. I've been trying for the last year off and on but when he saw that his friends were sitting on the potty and getting rewarded for it, he wanted to try it. I went to Walmart and they had one that when he does something, it makes a noise like a truck starting up. That excited him so much to know that this is his seat. Don't get frustrated if he doesn't take to it right away. He might not be ready. Just keep offering it especially just before bathtime and make a big deal when he does go. Also, check out the Potty Time with Elmo DVD. My kids love it and it shows them what they need to do when that feeling comes on.

Good luck

Hi! My 21 month-old daughter is in love with Elmo and thought it would be encouraging if we bought her an Elmo potty. It talks and praises the child in English and Spanish. She really likes it! She also has a regular, plain potty at my parents house and uses it just the same. Heck, she even asks to use the big, grown up potty sometimes.

In reality, b/c they all function the same, it doesn't matter which one you buy, provided that there's consistency and encouragement from all caregivers. We found an Elmo DVD called "It's potty time" or something along those lines and this in fact promoted using the potty. Shortly after, she'd tell us when she wanted to go. She's not completely trained, we're still working on it, but she's more inclined to let us know now.

Hope this helps.

I've had a great experience with this potty from Once upon a Potty. The shape is easy for the kids to sit on and it minimizes splashes.

You can find it at www.target.com. Just search for Once upon a potty. They also get a little doll with a little doll potty.

I love this one!

This chair is nice looking, so you won't mind having it your house (sometimes in various rooms).

My daughter is 17 months old, and we have not started formal training yet, but I got the chair early so it could hang around and be normal and not scary. She absolutely loves it. She likes having her own toilet paper (to play with) and a book rack. She sits on it and looks through her books. The past two days she has gotten up sat on it, unprompted, and pooped on the potty (in her diaper). I have not guided this at all -- but have allowed her to see me going to the potty in the morning, so presumably this is some kind of modeling. I was looking for the gentlest, most natural way of teaching her, and so far, I am very pleased with the results.

It is such a touchy moment for them that I think it depends on the kid. I don't remember the brands I bought for my little one, but anyway, she refused to use them. She preferred the regular toilet. I had the full size potty chair that played a tadaaaaa when she would potty and a portable one that I thought would be good for emergencies on the road. Well, she could hold it really good and refused to use either one of them and as well refuses any dirty restrooms. She will walk in, give a little sniff and look around. If it is not fresh and clean, it's over. She held it for 4 hours on a road trip and just flat out refused. I even tried purchasing toilet seaties in the event the public restroom didn't have one, it didn't matter, she won't even pull her pants down if it is dirty.

Both my kids love our Baby Bjorn potty chair. Try looking on www.amazon.com for reviews and other brands.

We also got an "On The Go Potty" for our car. Very useful once the child is already potty trained and you are on the road and can't find or stop at a bathroom. You can also get this at www.amazon.com

Each child is different. You just have to try it.

Good luck,
Susan

Hi-

I bought a clear potty

http://www.theecstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_inf...

The main advantage is that you can visually confirm if they are finished and give immediate reinforcement, even from across the room, no need to listen carefully or get them off the potty to check. One downside is there is no removable bowl. Also, it's pricier than bjorn.

Here's an old discussion on the pros and cons:

Hi,

My suggestion is to let him pick out the potty chair he wants to use. We picked out my daughter's chair without her input and she just thinks it's a toy. She has no interest in using it at all. She's got all the signs of being ready but she doesn't want to use the "big potty" at all. Just thought I'd offer my 2 cents to save you some money.

I would not recommend the miniature toilet that the kids go in near the real toilet because of the germy mess they can become. We just got a Cushie-Tushie, or something like that name, from Walmart today for our second child and I already like it better.

I LOVE BabyBjorn. I did a lots of research when I was looking potty chair for my son. I went to every single store to look at every brands and ask around my girlfriends. To my biggest concern is most of the potty chair seem too small or doesn't seem as comfortable as they say on the box. So I decided to take a chance on BabyBjorn and it works great. Even though at the beginning, the chair seem to big for him, but kids grows and the chair doesn't, so now almost the end of his potty training. It's perfect.
