It's filling a pad in an hour. Tampons aren't really given a guideline. I would think it would mean a super though and not a regular.
When doctors describe heavy periods as filling a tampon every hour, what size tampon are they referring to? Regular size? Thanks!

On heavy days I used to fill a super sized tampon every hour or two. I can recall bleeding so much that one time I bled on my bed and it looked like someone had been slaughtered on it.
You are overthinking this. You are okay.
You should ask your doctor what she means when she asks this question. We cannot guess what she means.
I only use regular tampons. I've never filled one in an hour. If I did I would say that is a heavy period especially if it lasted for more than 2 days.
Hello, have you been checked for Fibroids.. I ask because I noticed from another post that you are anemic as well.. I have them and during a heavy flow, which is usually whenever I have one, it's super heavy.. by that I mean, I have to use a super tampax and a pad for leakage.. what happens is called flooding.. because of the fibroid, the blood backs up and then floods.. TMI , I know.. but it's what happens. you may want to get checked out.. fibroids aren't just for older women..good luck
I always think heavy means that I go through a pad every hour. A heavy pad, not a normal one.
My understanding is a normal absorbency tampon, but a maxi pad.
And my understanding is if you have to use a maxi pad and a tampon together to get through a few hours .. that's heavy.
Keep in mind - for most women the first day or so is heavy. It's considered abnormally heavy if it goes on for a few days, or even for some women, their whole period.
