sounds like she is almost constipated and needs more fiber. Give her some cheerios, wheat bread/toast, childrens soft fiber granola bars, etc
so i have to daughters, 17 months and 4 years. My 17 month old daughter has always had weird poops. Every time she poops it is alot of small balls or one large ball and i literally mean balls. Rarely does she have a smushed poop or what i would think would be normal. My 4 year olds poop wasnt like this. Is this normal or not normal???

Maybe she isn't getting enough water? How much does she drink? I would make sure she's getting more roughage and fluids and see if that helps. Sometimes my son has poop like that but it isn't the norm at all. I wouldn't worry, but I would try and get her to drink more water.
LOL when this happens to my DD (15 1/2 months) we call them 'puggets' - short for little poo nuggets. I know we're gross. But when it does happen I just feed her some prunes and always have a cold sippy cup of water for her and within 24 hours those puggets disappear and we have 'smushed' poop again
Good Luck
I have 17 month old boy/girl twins. She has smushed, soft poop and he has hard, balled poop. They both eat the same healthy food and drink plenty of liquids. Their pediatrician says his harder poop is fine, maybe you should check with yours just to make sure?
Hi T.,
It's not normal but very common. She needs more water and and maybe even some prune juice. Prunes are full of fiber and are good for the digestive system. My oldest was on 4 oz of prune juice a day until I started her on table food. her system is completely normal now.
Just FYI, EVERYONE should poop about an hour after every meal. Otherwise the toxins in the digestive system gets into the blood stream and other issues will develop.
Hope this helps!

My son has had really bad constipation and it finally started evening out. But now when I know he hasn't had enough fiber, it gets to be ball like. So what I do is make sure he has some sort of fibery food. He will down applesauce like no other! Next day it's back to that "soft snake" that poop is supposed to be like. I would suggest more fiber. If it gets really bad, Miralax like a previous poster said. But that is like, worst case scenario. My son was on that for 6 months to give his bowls a rest from overworking during the constipation. It is not a fun diaper to clean up.
My younger daughter did this and she ate a very healthy diet - mostly vegetarian by her own choice (she wasn't keen on meat) - no junk foods, and had plenty of water. And yes - BIG BALLS of poop.
It literally took us YEARS before we found out she had food sensitivity issues and intestinal malabsorption even though other symptoms arose slowly over the years. Check out

i just went to my doctor for something similar with my two and a half year old today. she poops what looks like milk duds (sorry if that's your favorite candy). and she is constipated. she eats healthy and drinks plenty. so his description is some people's colons are better at taking the water out of the stools than others. my daughters is really good at it. so he gave her miralax to get her cleaned out, and then hopefully she won't get as constipated next time.
good luck
