I have two wonderfull girls that have been six for going on 6 days. Extreamly high temps at times hitting 105 or higher. They are coughing. Have runny noses. The insides of there mouths are filled with red spots and puss spots. My older one has started vomiting. We have been to the doctor and the ER and they have sent us home saying that it is just a virus. I am still worried though. I have been dosing them with motrin and tylonal on a schedual.Giving them baths to keep them clean and cool. Ofering any fluids as much as posible. They seem like they are better for about 15 min when the medicen fully kicks in but after that they are right back to where they were before.
My girls are both very strong and they fight being sick. They are both so misrble I just am at a loss for what I can do for them.
My poor little girls ended up having mono. We went to a diffrent ER to fially figure this out. They are on pain meds antiviral meds and sleep aids along with the normal tylonal and advil. They look so out of it. But there temps are down and they are starting to get better. Thank you every one for your great advise and consurne.

It does kind of sound like hand foot and mouth which is a virus. Do they have a pediatrician? If not I would try to get them to one. Children are not little adults, if you take them to someone who is used to dealing with children and is more familiar with the diseases of childhood you should have better odds.
GOOD LUCK!! Please let us know how it goes.

Puss spots usually means some sort of bacterial infection. The fevers are also very high. I would think they need antibiotics. Please get a second opinion. Were they tested for influenza?

I agree with the others that say go to a different ER. My Dr just told me this week that a virus usually doesn't get a temp that high. That high of a temp is very dangerous. Please take them back in if it is still getting that high!

I will suggest you take them to a different doctor. That high of temperature is not good and it can be really bad for them. Please let us know what it was. Hope they get better soon.

Hi B.!
sounds like it might be herpangina, which is a virus. AKA foot and mouth disease. Ask your Dr. if you can swab the inside of the mouth with hydrogen peroxide, not sure if they do that any more or not. The Dr. is right if they ran any tests, and confirmed that it is a virus, it will have to work it self out. It takes about a week and a half. Try to give fluids as much as possible as the girls can get dehydrated cuz it hurts to eat or drink. Offer them ( I know its not healthy) popsicles I think I would stay away from the citrus kind as it might sting their throats. Just a suggestions, poor babies. Hope this helps!

I would take them in again. Temps that high are not normal and not healthy for your children. They need to be seen it has been going on way to long.
I noticed that people keep bringing up hand foot and mouth. If your child has the pus sores (kind-of looking like chicken pox) on the hands and feet I would consider this but if not you can rule this out. They will also be around the outside of the mouth and on younger children can be in the diaper area.

B. - If I were you I would be concerned too. That is a pretty cast array of symptoms and high fevers. I would recommend going back to your pediatrician - not just a walk-in clinic where they don't know your children's history. My guess is, even if it wasn't anything at the time you went in, it could have turned in to more at this point. They don't catch everything. My daughter just had the flu terribly. I know they can give you an anti-vomiting medicine at the doctor's office (usually if it's been more than 2-3 days). The key is that they need to drink as much water as possible. Or you are dealing with dehydration. Water will at least keep their energy levels healthier. They also told us no dairy or fruit for several days while my daughter had the stomach bug. Good foods are crackers, bananas, applesauce, soup. Everytime we tried to rush it, she would start comiting again. We drug it out for days because we tried to rush the food thing. I am sorry they are going through this. Get some good rest - ask for help so you can get enough sleep yourself. It's exhausting emotionally and physically as a mommy. I will pray for your little family right now that you are all on the mend & will get better and not worse. You are always right to follow your mommy instincts! They are a gift from God.

It sounds like you feel as if you are at a loss. I can so relate! A few years back my family had 2 very long and difficut illnesses travel throughout our family. I was frustrated and angry because I wasn't getting the answers or help I was looking for.
So I took it into my own hands to help my children. I found a product which was 100% safe and would feed their bodies so their immune system could be strengthened. Since then (3 years ago) we have had minor illnesses which are contained to 1 person only! Just email me at ____@____.com and I can share more with you.

You have a lot of good advise already!!
the only thing I have to add is that I got this when I was younger and it was actually an allergic reaction to medicine the doctor put me on.
if the doctors are sending your child home with 105 fevers, then CHANGE doctors b/c fevers that high for that long can be...and I don't want to scare you... fatal. take them to as many different doctors as you need to until SOMEONE does somehting. Go with your intuition. If you think there is something wrong, you know them best- if you have to block the door and don't let the doctors out until they actaully do something.
Good luck

Have them check for hand foot mouth diesese. My son had that at about a year. He had a really high fever for a few days of like 103 to 104 and then got soars like that in his mouth. those took a few more days to go away. It is a virus and takes about a week to be better but i would still bring them back and get another opinion. We had to give my son benedryl for a few days till the soars were gone but it is very contagious so i would bring them back soon. Hope they get better soon to.

I think you're doing the right thing. Are the temps actually hitting above 105? I've read that a temp really won't go higher than that. Remember, fevers are a good thing. Their bodies are healthy and fighting off this disease. Good luck!

I'm not sure of all of the symptoms of Whooping Cough, but it is going around like mad right now.
Take them back to the doctor. Maybe their symptoms will now register a red flag for something since it has been so long.
Good luck to you and your babies!

I believe whooping cough and strep throat has been going around. I'd get another opinion if they didn't swab their throats. If it's strep it can get very severe and even fatal if left untreated. Our started out with a headache for a day or two along with a fever then a sore throat. I was knocked out and couldn't do much but sleep the second day into the sore throat. I'd get another opinion but puss spots could be the white strep spots. It also could be just a virus like they're saying but I'd just get another opinion.

I'd push the issue with the doctors. No one will stand up for your girls but you. Fevers of 105 or higher require hospitalization, as fas as I'm aware. Seizures can set in and cause brain damage if fevers get too high. Don't be afraid of being pushy. You're talking about the health of your precious girls. Good luck! I hope everyoen gets better quickly!

My little boy has gotten tonsilitis (sp??) quite a few times, and he runs a high fever, has cold symptoms and has the "puss pockets" on the back of his throat.
Have they done any bloos tests to determine more??
I would get another opinion - if it was me, you hate to see them sick for that long!!
Good luck!!

Did they test them for step? It sounds a lot like strep throat. And make sure they did a culture. The quick strep test is always negative for me, but when it goes out for a culture, I get a call 24 hours later telling me I have strep.
I don't know when you went to the doctor, but I would recommend going back. Somethings don't show up at first but then later are detectable.
I'm sorry they are so sick. There's nothing worse than not being able to make your kids better.

Your poor 'babies'! Take them back. If your doctor won't do anything about it take them somewhere else. Mom's know best! Last week my son had a temp of 103.8 which is extremely unusual for him because he never gets a temp. He also said he had a headache. I took him in and he had strep. No sore throat, just a headache and fever. Good luck!

what about mono? my 3 and a half year old landed himself in the hospital after diagnosed with mono. 5 days later, 4 trips to urgent care & finally a 103.7 temp & severe dehydration & 4 lb weight-loss the urgent care doc sent us to the hospital. we are finally leaving today after being in hospital for 6 days on IV fluids, steroids, antibiotics & pain meds.... he has turned the corner that we couldn't have turned without being in the hospital. you are your childrens' advocate.... keep going back!!!

Did they do a blood test or urinalysis? The only way they can say for sure it is viral is by doing a blood test.
If it is viral, just keep up with what you are doing. Be careful of the bathing because if they get cold, they can shiver their temp up again. I had a pharmacist tell me you can alternate the ibuprofen and tylenol every 4 hours, so keep on top of that schedule.
Good luck and if it isn't getting better, take them back to the doctor.
Sounds nasty but you seem to be doing everything right so hang in there. It doesn't seem to be dangerous, just scary.

I would take the girls to another doctor and another ER... or maybe even a Chiropractor (They might not be able to treat the girls there, but they have more medical training than most DR's and can at least tell you what you are dealing with, since you MD doesn't seem to know)... 105 is too high and I wouldn't stand for a "go home" response.

Agree, agree, agree on the fever part. Temps of 105 or higher are dangerous. Any doc/er that ignored that isn't worth their salt and I'd go see another doc/er. If you think something is wrong, push it. Mom's gut instinct is almost always right, as has unfortunately been proven again and again when doctor's dismiss it and something goes wrong.
Be strong, be firm, and be insistent.

I feel pretty strongly, that if you have a gut feeling that something else is wrong, continue to take them to the doctor until they do something about it. I think that so many times, doctors "think" it is viral and then eventually it turns out to be something more. Go with your gut! Remember, Mom's know best! And, if they have been sick for 6 days and it's a virus, they should be getting better. A viral fever shouldn't last this long.

I think it sounds like strep too. Fevers that come back as soon as meds. expire, red/spotted throat, and vomiting...I would definatly have them checked out for strep. I am a mother of 4, and one of mine just got done with strep last week. He had swollen glands in his neck, very red throat and tonsils, fever, and vomiting. I have gone thru strep before with my kids, so I took him to Dr. by the 2nd day of all of this and it was strep. Within 4 hrs. of the first dose he was feeling MUCH better. Good luck to you, it's never any fun having sick children.
