What Could This Be Now?!?!?!

Ok my daughter had a high fever Monday night, 103.5, followed by diarrhea. Fever was down before midnight and has been down ever since. She still has diarrhea but I have put her on the BRAT diet and it seems to be helping. Now I am noticing that she has 2 little sores at either corner of her mouth. No sores in her mouth,on her hands, or on her feet. They aren't big or anything. I am wondering if they could be cold sores or something that has come along with her getting sick at the beginning of the week. I am going to see how it goes over the weekend before calling her DR. Any ideas???

Edit: I just called her dr. and they said it sounds like the end of a virual infection and just to keep an eye on her this weekend. My other thought is, could it be something with the sand that we just purchased for a sand box just this past weekend?????

Sounds just like the virus my son had last month. The BRAT diet didn't work to clear up his diarrhea, so we bought him the kid's Florastor from Walgreens (behind the counter at the pharmacy), and it cleared it up in 3 days. That could be an option for you if the diarrhea still isn't clearing up. I don't think it's from the sand, kids just pick up viruses everywhere, and the viruses do have a gestation period. Good luck!

Don't worry Mom - probably not the sand unless you got it used. It takes a bit for those viral things to show up. Take care of your girl and once she's better help her make a sand castle.

Hi L. was the sand in a bags when you brought the sand box? If so, go on line and read up on sand that gos into these boxes. usually a virual infection are air-borne and she could picked it up anywhere. Bacterial infection comes from contact with something.

My daughters cought the Herpengina Virus. They started out w/high fevers. My one daughter went up to 104.1 and threw up a couple of times. The other had diahrrea. The fevers lasted for 2-3 days then they both got these sores in the back of their throat. The whole thing lasted about a week. Its very contagious. Its spread through their feces and respotory secretions. If thats at all what it is. my doctor asked if we had been to the pool recently. We had. He said thats where its mostly picked up from. He also said he has seen alot of it recently. I just thought I would tell you our story since it sounds a little similar! Hope she feels better soon!

Back in March, my son had a whole month of sickness. Started with a cold with fever. That cleared up and then he had diarrhea and a bit of throwing up for a week. That cleared up and he broke out in a rash from head to toe. Doctor said it was all the same virus just running it's course.

The sand in stores is usually cleaned before they sell it. Since you just put it in the sandbox I wouldn't worry about it. Check occasionally to make sure cats or raccoons don't use it for a littler box. ick. That stuff can be yukky and not so very good. I'm sure the doctor is right.

My little guys just finished up with the same.

The 21mo old - 2 days high fever, followed by 2-3 of diarrhea.
The 3 1/2 yr old - 2 days high fever, followed by 2 mouth sores (never had before) and 1-2 day diahrrea.
The littelest guy got it first, and I too attributed it to his being outside, playing in the sand, drinking the rain water ... yes EVERYTHING goes in the mouth and gets the taste test ... who knows. It could just be a bug going around.
