Hi!

Do you wipe her face with baby wipes? I found out mine is allergic to several kinds and breaks out in little red bumps from it.

This is just a suggestion, but have you tried taking inventory of what she eats and does throughout the day? I mean has she done anything out the usual? When My son broke out with a little rash over his hands and chest. I went back to what we did or used that day. Come to fine out that he's allergic to artifical peach flavor, but can eat a real one. So just a look and see if it's something new thats been added to the routine.

ou could find a holistic doctor who know show to identify and treat allergies or whatever causes the rash - your current doctor is just suppressing the symptom, which means things will likely recur until you resolve the cause.

for some reason it seems like most drs say benadrill seems to be a miracle cure, my advice is to consult a dermatologist and find out what the cause is so you can correct it, not band aid it. also make sure that the hands are washed reguarly, good luck J.

figure out what she is allergic to. Either take her to an allergist or start the process at home. At home start removing familiar things from her life for a few days at a time. I usually start with soaps and detergents, move onto foods eaten on a regular basis. Make sure she is cleared up and only reintroduce one thing at a time, wait a few days, then another, etc. This may take a long time (months) to find the culprit, or culprits. The up side to doing it at home is not only the cost, but some allergies are brand specific and not caught at the doctors office. (I am allergic to several liquid laundry detergents, but no powders, etc...)

i'd see if you could take her to a dermatologist. they are typically better at diagnosing problems w/ the skin and will be able to tell you what you can do.

Are you using toothpaste? Flouride? They cause allergies. The other thing is a food allergy. Something going into her mouth is causeing her to get that allergie. Citrus can also be a culprit.
Start writing down what she eats and see if there is a reaction.

Have you changed detergent or fabric softener lately? Or might this be happening when her sheet is damp from more drooling than normal? My kids were often sensitve at times to fabric softener, scents, or different detergents. I started using all 'free' products and this helped in our family.
Good luck!

I suggest one of two things....

1 - keep a diary. Mark down when you notice it (date, time of day, etc.) and then think backwards about all the things she did (i.e., play outside in the grass, what she ate, what she was wearing, etc. - be detailed!). I would even go as far back as the night/day before you notice the rash. After you have several days logged into your diary - look at them all to see if you find anything that is the same for each occurance. If so, you have then found your allergy.

2 - take her to an allergist and let them run a skin test. I would suggest this last because the test isn't very nice! They will scratch her back with all sorts of different things that could cause allergies and then she will have to sit and wait. The scratching doesn't feel that great and there are lots of scratches. I have done it with my son, who it didn't bother (at about the same age). But, they told me that he was the best they have ever done - most kids kick and scream through it.

Good luck and I hope you find the culprit (sp).

Happy Holidays!

Hi J.,

I agree it is a reaction to something and I always go to the synthetic things first. It could be dairy or the processing (chemicals) the dairy goes through. Fast food, processed foods and a lot of imported fresh foods have a ton of chemicals on them. If you house has not been detoxed and you use a lot of chemicals, it could be one of them or several of them contraindicating. We are not built to be allergic to natural things. If there is a reaction to a natural thing then there is something else involved.

If you want to consider detoxing her little body or detoxing your home, I can walk you through it. Most conditions can be prevented... Even things as dangerous as cancers can be prevented 90% of the time. Detoxing can be simple and also inexpensive.

My son had a horrible rash on his face for months. We use dye and perfume free laundry detergent, tried sorting out whether or not it was a food allergy by eliminating common foods that cause breakouts, but nothing worked. We called a friend who is a naturopath doctor, finally because it was just getting worse.. People would stop me and ask what was wrong with my child! It was horrible! When I talked to my friend, she said the first thing she would try is something with zinc in it, because sometimes it is caused by a zinc deficiency. We tried putting plain old desitin, with the highest percentage of zinc, on his face at naptime and bedtime, and it started clearing up! We talked to our pediatrician and she said sometimes it's caused by saliva lying below their cheek while they sleep, which causes them to breakout. Even so, the desitin creates a barrier between her face and whatever was causing the rash. Now my baby has that beautiful skin I thought I would never see! I wish you luck! I know how horrible it feels when you can't find a solution!

If Benadryl works, she is allergic to something....probably some food, so you will have to start by eliminating a food, then if the rash doesn't come back, give her that particular food and see if it happens again. At 57, I went to a nutritionist and he told me to eliminate all dairy-I did and then tried cheese and got an asthma attack! I never knew and no doctor ever suggested it, just gave me drugs and inhalers for the asthma! Is why your pediatrician just told you to give her Benadryl (a drug)......You control her diet right now, so it is a relatively easy discovery-good luck!

You are treating the symptom- try treating the cause!
Rashes can be from diet- #1 cause- see WestonPrice.com for a decent diet- are you still nursing? then check your diet!
Also Dr. Bruce West is a great reference.
You are SO correct to ask this question- as our"healthcare" is geared to covering up symptoms and if that is gone, hey well you are well- nothing could be farther from the truth- the another symptom of the underlying problem will pop up.
Easier to handle the problem in the 1st place.
Good for you!

This happened to my son too! I took him to the ER because in 1 hour he went from having a rash (what the doctor called hives) on his bottom to covering his entire body. I was worried that they could have spread to his throat, but they were external only (thank God). The Ped. at All Children's told me it was most likely due to a food allergy, in fact, a food allergy that he was not allergic to at first, but had developed an allergy to...weird! We gave him benedryl and kept track of what he was eating. It turned out to be cinnamon, or at least that what we think. My son is only 2, so cinnamon was not a common thing that we put on foods, but in many baby foods, and other yummy foods this is used (you probably don't even know!). Cinnamon is great for you until it gives you a rash all over! Good luck! Our son still gets hives every now and then and we just treat them as they come along.

What you actually need to do is record what she eats and touches her face before the reaction. I know with my son, it's food related!

J.,

Wow, how disappointing to hear....that doctors are so willing to start our children on medication at the drop of a hat. They are bogged down with trying to see too many patients. A bit of friendly advice: doctors are not about what is healthy for people....they are there to prescribe medications(temporary symptom suppressors), not to cure the problem. We are a confused society about the role of the doctor. Giving the child benadryl is good temporarily, but you need to get to the root of the issue.

If your child is getting a rash anywhere on the body it is because of something that is causing an allergic reaction. It is something external(the first thing people look at) or internal(something usually not thought of). Look into both....like laundry detergent, down bed clothes etc.. More importantly look into the food you are feeding her.

If you need anymore ideas check out my ____@____.com daughter has food sensitivities and the most common sign is a rash! The worst part is that sensitivities interfere with digestion and improper digestion can keep the right nutrients from getting to a developing brain causing a number of developmental disorders in children!

Go with your mommy instinct it is the most amazing ability we have. You felt strong enough to ask around...keep looking your baby will be better for it. Good luck to you and your little girl. There is an email icon on my website if you have any specific questions.....A.

Hey J.,
I myself learned that there are quite a bit of things in regular everyday products that can cause allergies, rashes or severe skin conditions. Anyhow I have found that changing my shopping habits helped tremendously and as a matter of fact my niece who is now 16 has had these small rough bumps all over her body. I have given her lotion that I order from a health and wellness company and believe it or not within 2 days they were almost all gone. Being a customer with this company has been a blessing for me and my family and if you are interested in trying them out and Just Switching Stores just let me know by contacting me at ____@____.com I am not a sales person just super excited to share the discounts and knowledge with anyone who IS Interested. I will be glad to get a sample of the lotion if you like to try it yourself too.
Merry Christmas!
