One concern with bumper pad is SIDS, but at 10 months, I think you're pretty much past that. The next concern w/ bumper bads is that they'll use them to stand out to climb out. So, if you feel your daughter is safe and not trying to climb out, I say leave them as long as you like ;).

Hi A.,

I took my daughter's out of her crib when she started learning to stand and walk, because she would try to climb on it to boost herself up. I didn't want her to climb up and fall out, so I removed them. It's been fine ever since. Good Luck!

Leave them in until she moves to a toddler bed. My 22 month old still has his b/c he had occassionly when they were out would get his foot stuck or his his head. They do no harm in if their tied down and it provides extra cushion.

I took them out with both of my kids when they tried to stand on them. My son more than my daughter used to get arms and legs stuck in the rails while he was sleeping when I did take it out too.

To those advising that bumper pads be left in until the child is able to stand: the main reason that the AAP is recommending removal of bumper pads at this point is due to suffocation, not children standing on them. An infant can roll against the pads and be unable to push away, impairing his/her breathing and this can cause suffocation and even death. At 10 months, the concern would be more with her standing on them and falling out, but I didn't want the parents of infants who are unable to roll over/push away to get the wrong information and leave them in until their children are older.

Dear A.:
There is no set age. I didn't take my four children's out until they would stand up on them. You don't want them to climb out!
