What Age for the Movies??

Anyone ever take a toddler to see a kids movie at the theaters? I was considering the dollar theaters during the week...less crowded. I heard something about family days but can't seem to find anything online.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone! We are going to try a drive in movie in the next month or so when there is something they will like. Then we will probably try the summer specials one day this summer, that way if we need to leave its no big deal! :)
thanks!

It's AMC...if you go before noon everyone is $5. Superstition Springs Mall just re-did their cheapy theater...that's only $2 a person all the time.

I forget which theater it is but during the summer they have SUPER cheap movies packages, you get passes for something like 7 movies or $5 (give you take, its been awhile) for kids shows. All older movies but everyone and their children and grandchildren and cousin....you name it...pretty packed with kids and no one really cares if there is a fussing little one or not, I doubt most of them expect to make it through the whole movie LOL I took my 1 year old a few summers ago with the neighbor. We would drive seperate and when Max would start fussing we left and she brought the older kids home after the movie. It worked out pretty good. AMC or Harkins

Hi A., In my opinion 1 is too young. About three is good depending upon the kid. Ithink we took our son to his first movie at about 3 years old.

I'm not sure you could keep a 1 year old (or 3, 1 year olds) attention very long at the theater. I didn't start taking mine to the movies until they were over 2 and that was still challenging and still is at age 3. They're attention span is about 20-30 minutes and then all they want to do is get up out of their seats. If you do decide to take them, you will need booster seats so that the chairs don't fold up on them. The theaters have boosters there, but frankly, they're usually filthy. I always take my own. In regard to family days, that's usually during the summer. A lot of the theaters have family movies for free. They usually put out a schedule in about May and start offering them in June & July. Go to the websites of the theaters near you in May and they will probably start posting the schedules for this summer. Good luck.

Are you kids able to sit through a full length movie at home without getting up and moving around a lot? If so, then they will probably do well at the theater. If not, then I would wait until they can.

A.,

I am not sure where you live but there is a theatre at 27th Avenue and Bell Road, in Phoenix that has 3.00 movies. They are generally pretty quiet during the day and in the summer I believe they offer programs for kids to attend during the day. It is called Super Saver Cinema 8. Good luck finding what you need for your toddler.

Congrats on the Triplets!!!

A preschool in town take their 2 yr olds to the movies, on the Free Wednesday Movie Summer Program.

They say the kiddos do just fine.

I know Harkins offers a summer deal as a fundraiser through the schools. It's a season pass for 10 G and PG rated movies for $7 per ticket. Anyone 2 years and older needs a ticket and the movies start at 9:45. You pick your preferred theater and day of the week (M-F). My child's preschool (St. James Preschool in Tempe) is participating. Our oldest will be three in May, and we are just now taking her to her first movie theater experience. Good luck with 1 year old triplets (my thought are with you)! ;o)

I would say, don't plan on being able to watch the movie. :) I took my son at about that age and he was a little restless. He eventually fell asleep near the end but I had my hands full with him. If you are going to go definitely go during the day. Less people and more likely other moms will be there who won't care if your kid yells or something.

The city I used to live in had the "mom days" where moms could come with the kiddo's at a reduced rate and I'm sure it was more like a big playroom then movie theater. If I hear of any out here I will let you know! Goodluck, I know I had fun taking my son, it was just exhausting and a lot of work. You may want to take some extra adults with you if you have triplets. :)

The earlier you start, the better it will be in the future. I started taking my son at 1 years old, and he is 5 and sits through a movie with no problems.

The "dollar" theater in the Superstition Springs mall is actually 1.00 on Tuesdays, all day. They are 2.00 all other days and are very family-friendly. AMC does cheap movies in the summer. They usually advertise them in the paper when the time gets closer.

You go right ahead girlfriend. Key phrase "KIDS MOVIES". I dont take my kids to PG-13 or higher, but kids movies are for our wonderful little ones and their parents who also need lives outside of the chaos sometimes created from being cooped up in our homes. Its also a social learning environment for them ( I keep telling myself that.). HaHa. Enjoy those movies! I purchased family movie passes for the summer last year through my kids elementary school but I know you can get them from the theater too. It was once a week for about 10 weeks and I think they ended up being about $2 per movie. We had fun.
