I am in my 28th week of pregnancy and I have gained a total weight of 13 lbs since conception (started at 147 lbs and now am 160lbs). As per most weight gain charts, I am 3-4 lbs less than the desired minimum weight given my weeks. I had my ultrasound couple of weeks back and though doc said my baby weighs correct, my fundal height seems to be little less than normal. I stand 5'6.5" tall and am not sure if this common amongst tall women. I eat normal healthy food with not much of cravings. I am taking my prenatal vitamin regularly and make sure I get my daily dose of proteins, fruits, veggies and milk (am strictly vegetarian). I am starting to get little concerned regarding my weight gain. My due date is in 3rd week of september and is it possible to gain say another 20-25 lbs during the next 2.5 months? I was born a premature baby and will that have any impact on my baby? Pls advise.

You are over thinking this. Be glad you haven't gained 60lbs! The weight will come when it does and as long as the Dr. says it's ok don't worry about it. I had some friends who lost wieght and others that gained 75lbs!!!!! Just go with the flow and enjoy these last few months.

Sounds like you have nothing to worry about! I gained a total of 20 lbs in my first pregnancy and both baby and I were completely healthy. 20lb is considered a normal weight gain in many other first world countries.
So long as baby is still growing, I say enjoy your pregnancy, stop worrying and be glad you are not uncomfortably big. :-)

Just wanted to say congrats and tell you, don't put too much on your weight gain. If your ultra sound is normal and the doctors are telling all is well and you're eating healthy. Your weight gain is fine. When I had my first baby, I thought I HAD to gain the 40lbs. You don't, my aunt had a 10lb baby after gaining only 10bls herself. Each person is different, each baby is different. Continue to eat healthy and regularly. Take those prenantals. Your baby will be just fine. My prayers go out to you.

I am sure you are fine. We can't all be consider by the book. If your doctor is not up set over this you shouldn't be either. Consider yourself all baby. I carried my first child like that and lost the weight right after he was born. I don't think you being a premature baby will have an impact. I have never heard of that. Have you asked your doctor that question?

RELAX. It will be ok. I have a friend that had only gained 11 lbs at 6 mths. If you are eating healthy and the Dr. says the baby is fine, you are ok. You may very well gain weight toward the end but don't force yourself to fill up on empty calories. Welcome to Atlanta and I hope it all goes well. I am originally from here so if you eve have any questions, feel free to ask!!

Hi V.,

Congratulations on your soon-to-be bundle of joy and welcome to Atlanta! First and foremost, you will gain easily 10 lbs in the last month of your pregnancy. I don't know where it comes from...but it comes...lol. Also, if you aren't gaining enough weight, your doctor will let you know and if it's a serious concern, they'll put you on bed rest...which wouldn't be all bad ;-) However, that's a worst case scenario. I am tall and had a had time gaining weight during both of my pregnancies...in fact I lost weight. I just ate mashed potatoes, ice cream and milk shakes. That helped a bit. Anyway, I'm sure you're fine. Don't stress for no reason. Just listen to what your doctor says.

Congrats again :-)

Watch "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" on TLC, and you'll feel much better about all of it! Healthy babies born to women who had no clue, gained no weight, and did no prenatal anything. LOL!

Seriously, I understand that you have concerns, but as long as your doctor isn't concerned about your weight gain, you're probably fine. Some women gain very little -even if they were small to begin with -and they have very healthy babies. Also, regarding fundal height, every woman carries differently -even from pregnancy to pregnancy! I wouldn't worry about it if it's only slightly less than normal. Continue to eat healthy, take your preanatal vitamins and maybe throw in some extra peanut butter or cheese. You'll probably gain at least 10 more lbs (you'll be surprised how it can pack on "magically" in the 3rd trimester) by the end of your pregnancy.

Most likely you being premature will have nothing to do with your baby. It really depends on why you were premature.

If you're eating right, your weight gain is fine. :) I only gained 25 with my first, and the OB told me that that was perfect and most women gain too much.

You might want to boost your protein by making smoothies with a scoop of protein powder. Use full-fat yogurt and milk--it's okay right now!
