My son Logan(now almost 11 months)is cutting his 2nd tooth and he is making me CRAZY!!! He is fine during the day, but he cries all night. I have tried Orajel, teething tablets, and Motrin. His Dr. told me to rub Children's Benadryl on his gums (Who Knows Why???)but nothing has helped. My 4 year old daughter got all her teeth early, and never had any problems, so this is all new to me. I need any help, advice, home remedies, or old wives tales anyone has. Thanks in advance!!!

What can I do next?

There are these little tabs, actually labled "teething tabs." My mother in law showed them to me and they are amazing! You can find them at CVS, probably other drugs stores also. I was apprehensive to use them at first, but they dissolve really fast, and they work like a charm. For those really hard days I would suggest adult oragel. I know it says just for adults, but it really works, and we had no problem with it. Also, I know a lot of people are against the rum use, but I really found it to be a great way to help with the pain, that is until my second child tried to suck it off my fingers every time I used it. I stopped using it with her because I couldn't apply it, since she was drinking it instead! And that, is never a good thing! LOL! Good luck.

How I feel your pain!! My son is 8 months and teething as well and it is horrible. He has 5 teeth now and working on another one. He was miserable with the others but this one is really bad for some reason!!! Motrin, Oragel and the other things don't work on him either this time! The teething rings haven't really helped at all. He will sleep at night most of the time but during the day he is REALLY fussy. At night he doesn't sleep very well and tosses and turns and cries out a lot. The only other things I find that helps at all is to get a clean washcloth and wet it then put it in the freezer for 10 minutes and give it to him to suck on. He also likes the Biter Bicuits that have been in the freezer. At Wal Mart I found a teether that is shaped like a star and when the baby bites on it, it vibrates and he seems to like it. Like I said he still is miserable and they all provide temporary relief. I guess have to hang in there!

You could always try that old wives remedy of giving him some gin or rum! I think it may do the same thing as Benydryl, make him drowzy. Good luck on your quest for peace.

Hi B.,
I have a couple of ideas for the teething pain. when you go to walmart go over to the aisle where they keep the denture cleansers and floss, you will find a white and orange box with the name of benzadent on it. This was created for people who have all their teeth pulled and are having gum pain, it has like 35% benzacaine, thats alot for an OTC medicine. If that doesnt work go to an adult store and buy you some anal eze, people always look at me funny when i tell them that but it really does work. It also has a high % of benzacaine in it as well.
when my children were small i used frozen wash rags i would just lightly wet them and stick em in the freezer, also, you can go to any leather shop and get a good piece of clean leather. I hope that gives you some new ideas, and good luck! I feel for ya, I remember those days!!

hello B. my name is K. im a mom of three. when my kids were little and had some trouble with teething i alway gave them cold wash rags to chew on. i would just wet them and put into freeze then take them out when ever they need them it seemed like the roughness of the wash rag would help break the gum to get the tooth through hope this helps K.

Hi,
I hope this helps, don't use anything that rubs on bc the excess salivia rinses it away with out any relief. I am all natural and use homeopathic chamilia. You can find the tablets at Golden temple or similar places, any age child can disolve them. I have never used any medicine, only chamilia.
The doc told you the benadryl to drug the child to sleep or atleast that is what I have been told is the use for that.
Good luck.

You may think I'm crazy but this worked for me and my sister. It's an old wives tale but I swear by it. Get an egg that hasn't been refrigerated yet. Hang it up in the house. We hung ours in the toe of a knee hi and put it in our kitchen window sill behind the curtains so no one would see it. Then just leave it alone. Something about it worked. Mine hung for many years. Just be careful not to bust it as it will stink. My sister kept her's up for 7 years I think. Good luck.

try rubbing a little bit of vanilla extract (like you use to cook with)on the gums.

I know something that helped me was to put a wet washcloth in a ziplock bag and put it in the freezer for a little while. Then when it was nice and cold, my son would suck on it and his teeth would feel better. Good luck.

I thought of something I did for my son when he was little. I used an old remeidy. Because he cried all the time with his teeth. try to find some rubarb and let him chew on it it will numb his gum and he might just sleep better. but give him a stick of it but watch him because it shredds but it worked for my son. Just let me know if it works.
