P.K.
I use regular baking soda and it works great.
I'm wondering whats the best way to wash cloth diapers in a front loading washer..I was reading on how to wash the diapers and then i found a website saying that washing them in a front loader is harder then a normal washer. How does anyone wash in front loader and what's the cheapest best laundry soap to use.
I use regular baking soda and it works great.
We have changed our routine several times. Right now I swear by Charlies Soap (www.charliesoap.com) It's safe for front loaders and studies have shown it washes completely clean. I do a cold rinse, then wash w/ charlies in hot water and then sometimes a hot wash. I don't do the second hot wash all the times just occaisionally. This seems to work well for us. If your starting to see build-up then you can try adding vinegar or baking soda. I used both before I started w/ Charlies. Now I really don't need the extra products. Good luck! Oh and when/if you order charlies. Make sure to order 2 products to get 10% off and have your order be over $20 to get free shipping. Each bag will run you about $13 but will last for 80 loads. So it's really a good deal.
I've always washed cloth diapers in a front loader and think it would actually be more difficult to do in a regular washer. I use my handy-dandy pre-wash and second rinse buttons and wash them on high heat to really help get them clean. I use Country Save detergent and have been very happy with it. Because I only use this detergent for diapers and you only have to use a fraction of what is needed for a regular washer, I've been using the same box for over a year now and still have 1/2 a box to go!
I wash my cloth diapers in a front loader and haven't had any problems. An HE front loader is definitely better on the diapers. There is no agitator, which can be pretty rough on diapers and clothes. I use plain old Tide. I know of a lot of moms that use Charlies or 7th Generation without any problems, though. Tide has always worked for us so I've never tried anything else. I have 3 in diapers and wash everyday. I use the sanitary cycle which uses the super hot water (and lots of it, good for getting all of the soap out) with an extra rinse at the end.
We wash our diapers in a front loader. I run them through once on just a rinse cycle, and then run them through a second time with detergent, vinegar (in the rinse) on hot. It's worked well for us. We just use regular front-loader laundry detergent with no perfume or dye - ours comes from Costco.
We used a front load for our cloth diapers with no problem. I also used Charlies soap (www.charliesoap.com) and had no problems. The reason I use that vs a regular detergent is the Charlies won't build up on the diapers, it rinses clean and leaves no smell behind. REgualr detergent will eventually make you diapers smell like flowery pee, not pleasant.
THe Charlies requires on tablespoon per wash load, however that is a FULL wash load, so you only need about 1/4 of the tablespoon per diaper load. I had one bag that lasted me almost a year for diapers because you only need so little to wash the diapers.
Our routine always rinsed poopy diapers right away, then hung in the shower to dry, and then stored in the bag until wash day. On wash day, I did a warm wash and then a 2nd warm rinse, and hung the diapers to dry and dryer dried the inserts (we used fuzzi bunz, remember never use dryer sheets or fabric softener on diapers, it will cause them to build up and repel liquid).
I'd call Peapods (http://www.peapods.com/) in St. Paul and ask for their input.
