Washer & Dryer Recommendations - Oak Creek,CO

The home we are moving into does not have a washer and dryer. So, we're in the market for a washer & dryer. Ideally, I'd like something energy efficient, but, I also don't want to break the bank. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Hi A.,
I have the greatest washer and dryer. We got it at Home Depot and that is the only place you can find them. It is the GE Adora...they make both a washer and dryer. It says King Size Capacity on the washer and wow...is it. It cuts way back on my laundry and is much larger than any of the fancy front loaders I have looked at. They were not expensive...one was in the $200 range and the other was in the $300 range. We have had it for almost 3 years and have never had a problem with it. Good luck!

I love my Kenmore washer and dryer from Sears. I got them when they were on sale; they are generally a lot cheaper than high quality name brand appliances, but they have the same high quality. They last practically forever. It also came with a 5 year warrantee and they will come fix it/clean it whenever I want. It has been very energy efficient. I like that it's big too so that I can do huge loads if I want (which we have a lot of that with 3 kids), so that makes it nice because we don't have to do as many loads. It's big enough to fit a bed comfortable as well. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I like my maytag neptune front loader -- but I didn't have much choice in it because it came with our new house. As you decide what to get, keep in mind that a new washer and dryer can last for a long time. My mom just replaced her washer and dryer after 22 years of use (and that's pretty heavy use too -- 5 kids!). So instead of thinking about how much it might break the bank, make a good investment for the future. You want something that will last and not fall apart.

It is worth your money to spend a little extra for the front load washer, and a dryer that can keep up! Just a month ago I bought the LG brand washer and dryer (WM2455HW & DLE5955W). I have NO regrets! I can't believe how fast my laundry gets done! I loved the gray color ones displayed in the store, but I purchased the white ones because they were each $100 less to get them in white. I too didn't know what I wanted and what helped me the most was going into the store (I went to Home Depot) and having the sales rep take me through my options with all of them. I decided on the one I liked the most and then went home and compared prices on line from other stores, also reading reviews. Home Depot had the best price with a 10% off appliances over $399 and they gave me information for rebates and forms from Rocky Mountain Power and Questar to get rebates from them for purchasing Eneregy Star Appliances (only for the washer). Home Depot also has a 12 month 0% interest credit card you can apply for (just make sure you pay it off before the 12 months or interest for the 12 months gets added on at the end of the 12 months.) I know I'm already saving money on my water and electric bills as the washer and dryer get the job done so quickly! Bottom line, my suggestion is go to a store and have the sales rep take you through all of the options! Go somewhere they don't get commission! (Home Depot does NOT work off of commission.) I use to dread laundry and now I LOVE it! I look for things to wash! Good Luck with your decision!

Check out consumer reports on washers and dryers, there are some models out there that perform very poorly, even though they are new and look nice they may not wash well so do your research before you buy.

I would highly recommend the Kenmore Elite front load washer/dryer set. I have the 4ET and my sister-in-law has the 5ET. Both are extremely energy efficient and are lower priced than most other front load washer/dryer sets that offer the same settings. What I love about ours is that is has an extra skin care rinse on the wash cycle, which is great since our whole family has sensitive skin. Hope this helps!! and good luck.

I too want to say we love our front loader. We specifically got one with a sanitary cycle because I was planning on (and do) use cloth diapers. It's awesome!! I've even thrown the results of my dd taking her diaper off in her crib in the sanitary cycle! We have Frigidaires. We got ours at a Best Buy discounted because they were returned because the delivery guys had put a couple of dings in them! Definatly ask at the places your looking at what they have that's been returned and why!

When we bought our washer and dryer I took my mom's advice and called an appliance repair man. They know what brands are the most reliable. I have done this with every major appliance purchase I have made since then and I have never been disappointed. When I called about washer and dryers the repairman said that Maytag is the only way to go for a washer. They are the only brand that has belts instead of gears so they last about twice as long as any other brand. They do cost more than most brands though. There are some cheaper Maytags (around $200-$300), but those are not very good. He recommended Kitchenaid and Maytag for dryers. I bought a Maytag washer and a Kitchenaid dryer and they were both great.

On another note, I would stay away from Kenmore. The appliances are as good as any others, but if you ever have a problem with them the parts cost about three times as much as any other brand. We learned the hard way to stay away from that brand.

We just moved into the same situation. After a week we decided we had to buy something, and just got a washer. I hang the clothes to dry on a clothes rack, and it actually works pretty well - and is a lot less work than I thought it would be. We looked around a bit too, and found the cheapest place was Lowe's. We also had a 10% off coupon from the post office moving packet - which saves a lot when buying a big purchase. We bought a front loader Frigidaire. I really like it! It saves energy and water, and the clothes come out a LOT dryer than a top loader - which makes drying time a lot faster since I just hang dry everything. The washer we bought was rated (I don't know by who) best washer under $1200 and it works great, and holds a lot more clothes than a top loader too, so I have less loads to wash. We bought a 4 year extended warranty, and with the discount it all came to $700, which is a lot less than some, but enough to get something decent.

If you don't want to fork out the cash, check your local newspaper or radio station. They should have a 'free' section where people are trying to get rid of stuff. Here there were a lot of free washer and dryers listed that just need to be picked up (we didn't have a way to bring them home, so Lowe's delivery was nice.) Anyway, hope that helps. :)

we got an almost new washer and dryer that we found in the ad in the newspaper, a Kenmore 'set' for ... $200. 4 years "with us" the things work perfectly well! I do not know the year when they were made, though...
you know, sometimes people move, or get wealthier for some reason :0 and then they want to buy another equipment, selling the 'older' one, that is in a perfect order and condition. just look at the ads also, I suggest, and look also who do you buy it from. We went to the place, and it was a wonderful elderly lady, whose adult children decided to make her a present: super model of some washer and dryer although her own worked very well. What is she to do with the old ones? She posted this ad, and we lucked out!
We once rented a house where they had a very nice Whirlpool Duet = good stuff, also.
Good luck in finding what you seek, A.! :)

I purchased an LG washer and dryer. I had been looking for about four months and asking around. For my large family this has been perfect. I looked on a local website to see what was available. I actually found mine at Sears at a scratch and dent new for the same price I could have gotten it used. Shop around.

We really like our Kenmore, full-size front loaded washer and dryer. It's energy star rated and has an eco cycle to save water. The city of Denver (if that's where you live), will give you a cash rebate if this washer is purchased, due to it's efficiency. the washer and dryer drums hold more clothes than our previous top loading kenmore set from the 80's. I strongly suggest going with a Kenmore brand, as you get what you pay for. I also STRONGLY recommend staying away from Maytag. I've found their products to fail very soon after warranties...and that company takes no responsibility for their lack of product development.
Hope that helps!

PS: With the front loaders, the salestaff usually tries to sell you "platforms with drawers" in which to set the front loaders on (for about $200 per platform!!!). This really isn't necessary. We decided to simply stack our dryer on top of the washer (they all come with a stacking kit for free). I've used this set up for a few years, even when pregnant, and it was never a problem. The height of the units stacked comes to about 6'-0", so shouldn't be an issue with ceiling height.

If you're interested in a good deal, we have a set we are selling! We thought our new house didn't have a W/D, so we moved our old ones with us from Nebraska - and now have an extra W/D set! They're nothing fancy, but worked well when we used them at our old house. They are Kenmore Heavy Duty. My husband is hoping to get $100 for each of them, but I'd just be happy to get them out of our garage! Drop me an email if you're intereseted, ____@____.com

We purchased our washer/dryer at the Sears outlet. a la scratch and dent. If there is a scratch on it they sell it for sometimes half the regular price. They are brand new appliances but if there are scratches on it they can't sell them in regular stores. I probably wouldn't buy anything that people may see. But when it comes to washer/dryers they are usually in closets anyway. They have everything the reg. stores usually have. We have found some awesome buys! Good luck!

I love my front loads that I got from the Appliance Factory Outlet in Thornton, we have also used the Scratch and Dent for Sears in Denver.

It saves a lot of money if you buy their "damaged" as long as you dont mind a few extra scratches

A., we just bought a new washer/dryer and it was like Christmas for me! I never knew that something so boring to buy could be so exciting to get!!! Whatever you do, get a front end loader washer and dryer! We LOVE ours and they are energy efficient. They are LG made. In fact, we were cut a check from our power company for buying them. I believe they start just under $1000 and go up. We spent a bit more than what we wanted on them but are happy we did! Good luck!

Check some of the smaller independant appliance stores, call some of the smaller towns around the Denver area. Ask them if they have any scratched or dented appliances. I got a Maytag washer and dryer for a great price 7 years ago and have never had to call a repair man. The scratches and dents are on the side of the appliances and they don't even show that much, and even if the scratch did show, it was still a great price!

Your local electric/water company may give you a discount if you buy a energy efficient. The most energy efficient ones are the front loading and you can go to an Appliance warehouse and get a discounted or try getting at scratch and dent type thing, where there may be a ding because it was a display but still is warrantied. Call your local electric company and ask what cash back programs they have for buying energy efficient.

Arvada Appliance has good used washers and dryers. I have looked around and like the up right front loaders ones. You can get them adjustable and are easier on the back as well as cost effective. You may spend a little more to get them but the detergent and energy savings are great. When I replace my current ones I will get the front loaders.
