Walmart CMN Donation

I am going through receipts and a note of donation just caught my eye on my Walmart receipt. It appears I was charged $2 for the Children's Miracle Network and I don't remember agreeing to it. I usually make my donation direct and don't allow stores to tack on an additional charge at the register. Has anyone else noticed this charge on their receipt and they didn't agree to it? Does anyone remember if this is something on their credit card kiosk? Maybe I accidentally hit it with the pen.

What can I do next?

I work at Wal-mart. The cashier asks if you would like to donate, it is not something on the kiosk. I don't know why the cashier would tack on the donation unless you agreed to it. We don't get any prizes or rewards for getting the most donations.

i am sure it was a mistake too. no biggie. i sure would feel like a heel complaining to the manager about something so inconsequential as $2. especially being a donation to CMN. i agree people asking for donations is annoying too but if people don't ask how would people know where/when/how to donate? come on ladies let's get in the spirit....i know you were just asking to see if this is common to put it on there without the customer realizing it. but some of these responses really surprise me.

Sounds like an honest mistake or miscommunication. It has nothing to do with where you were shopping.

In response to another poster here - I think it's kind of sad that someone would make THAT big of a stink over an accidental donation to a children's charity. Some people really need to chill out a little.

I hate ANYONE asking for donations. We give on our own.

Also, if Walmart wants to donate to CMN or anything else, Walmart should pay the $$ not ask customers to.

As to your question, I have never had $ added to my card for a donation.
I would go see the manager and that would probally be enough to make sure it didn't happen again as he would look up the employee number and correct the employee.

Is it possible that the clerk asked and you didn't hear clearly and said yes to what you thought was something else? I sometimes have difficulty hearing at check out because the clerk speaks softly or because of the noise.

First I boycott Walmart and will go out of my way to never walk into any store they are affiliated with.

I have noticed at the Tom Thumb gorcery store close to me that donation questions for Breast Cancer, Prostate cancer, etc are on the display.

I have nothing against donating and I do donate my fair share but I think this tactic is confusing for some people, especially those in a hurry.

It appears to be a sneaky way to get donations. I read the display carefully when checking out anywhere.

I HATE this kind solicitation! It's not that I don't care about kids or cancer but if I want to make a donation I will pick a charity and donate to it, so quit begging for it every time I buy a gallon of milk. Super annoying!

They probably asked you something like"would you like to help the children today" and maybe you were busy with something else and just mumbled back politely? I haven't "accidentally" donated yet, but I always think it's only a question of time since I am usually busy keeping my DD occupied during the checkout process while also running my card...

@music Walmart donates more then any other company annually, and they also match in store donation BTW.. I agree with the poster that the cashier may not have heard you say no to the donation, if it really bothers you go talk to the store manager.

I don't think a Walmart employee/cashier would ever deliberately take advantage of any customer. I was just recently a customer in Walmart located in North Brunswick, NJ and I was asked by a cashier if I wanted to donate money to a particular organization and I voluntarily did donate $5.00 and got the best feeling in the world doing so. Is it at all possible that maybe the cashier asked you and maybe you weren't paying complete attention. I know that Walmart's are always so busy and it's easy to not always hear exactly what the cashier is saying. If I were you I would go back to the Walmart with your receipt and asked to speak with the Store Manager or even the Loss Prevention Manager.

Best of Luck !
