My daughter is holding a dance for habitate for humanity- she needs gift cards as dance prizes- and everyone is telling her to call the corporation to submit a request! Is there anyone who knows a business (thats appealling to JR High kids) willing to donate anything prizeworth?

What can I do next?

We have also contacted companies directly and they are usually willing to donate to a worthy cause. I have given gifts for donations at charity events.
Usually people in fundraising send letters or appear in person to request donations.

How many are in your group? What is your silver award goal?

Hi
I do a lot of charity events and find many stores/companies willing to work with simple donations. My best advice is have your daughter (or you) type up a letter about the event and what you are requesting (a tax write off gift card) and then have her go in and ask for a manager. The green companies are the best-Starbucks, Buffalo Exchange and maybe you know some others in your city. Tell them what it's for and ask if you can come back or call back to see if they are interested. I do this often and get great response when the charity appeals to their customer market.

I know Wal-Mart gives to non profits each month. You just need to get your request in early. I think Target does too. Just call and ask who is in charge and what's the protocol.

When I've done fundraising for a school auction, I just called lots of businesses nearby. You might call smaller companies that may only have a few local locations. I received donations from a small sportng goods store. You might be able to get a donation from either a mom and pop pizza or ice cream/yogurt place. I have found that the big companies usually require a lot of notice. Another location I received a donation from was the Chula Vista Nature Center. Another place that you might try is bowling alleys, movies, or rock climbing places. Good Luck!

Don't call Chuck e Cheese! They don't make donations and they were not very nice about it over the phone. They will however give you back 15% of your purchase if you advertise for them by having a school night at one of their locations.. Oh, but if 75 people don't show up, guess how much they donate... Zero according to their website! After speaking with Nikki who is very short over the phone she transferred me to another department where I just got a voice mail. Waste of time if you have a small school.
