I was thinking of buying the Vtech - V.Smile TV Learning System that hooks up to the TV and has the microphone, but am hearing of people having problems with them breaking soon after purchase. I was wondering what other mom's experiences have been with this system?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank all those who replied. I feel much better about purchasing one, knowing that the company is willing to replace those that don't work. I really think she will love it. Thank you very much!! Happy Holidays!

We have had the V-Smile for 2 years and still love it. It does not have a built in microphone so that one may be different. Great FUN learning tool!!! A.

My daughter has one, shes had it for over a year but she has only played with it a few times as it does give us issues staying on and turning on... it uses batteries and it have to change them often but I gotta say it is a pain in the butt when she does want to play with it.

My son is 4yo and has the V-tech game console as well as the hand held gamer. He simply loves them. They encourage learning so I love them too. He has had his units for over a year now and we haven't had any problems. Hope this helps.

I dont know about the one with the microphone.

I have and have had for 3 years now... the VSmile that has a large drawing board (purchased seperately) and the regular controller. It was a great investment. It definately has helped my daughter with colors, shapes, problem solving, letters, spelling and math. I have never had a problem with it. The drawing board helps with writing and drawing skills. I would buy another one.

I do sugguest buying the electric cord with it though. It doesnt come with it for some reason. But We went thru a lot of batteries before we realized that there was a cord that could be purchased.

K.,

My kids have had one going on two years now. They love it. Every once in a while, they will play with it especially when they have company. Christmas and birthdays, I will buy them a game cartridge. I also purchased the AC adapter. They were going through batteries like it was no tomorrow. If you do purchase one, purchase an additional controller. I prefer the one that comes with the pen. They have games that you can draw with. I prefer Vsmile over Nintendo any day. It helps with their learning. I give it five stars.

We gave it to out 2 boys for christmas last year. They are now 3 and 5 years old. They play with it and the hand held one we got for them also. We had a problem with one button on the hand held one and I called V-tech and they had me send it back to them and they sent out a new one. All I was to send back was the hand held unit and they sent a whole new box. So we ended up with another game and the wires and all to. The only thing that we have had with the one that connects to the tv is, you have to take the batteries out and put them (the same ones you took out)right back in and it works again fine. I hope that helps you. Need any more advice just let me know.

I bought the regular v-smile on ebay. I am sorry that I did. I agree with Elizabeth, the graphics are horrible compared to any other system. It did help him with hand eye control. But we were forever unplugging to reset the systme. I tried the batterie route and couldnt afford it, so I purchased the adapter.....If anyone out there wants to buy my system for parts or games (we have 6) I will be happy to get rid of, ____@____.com this point I would like to throw out!!!! To answer your question I would say no, but if you purchase, hold on to receipt. I just think they are junk. Good Luck. M.

Try Leapfrogs click start. It's for 3-6 years and it's much more reliable.

My daughter also has the Leapfrog Click Start and I highly recommend it for ages 3 to 6. She is 4 and got it for xmas last year and is asking for new games this year. It is easy enough for her to control without our assistance. And it has the keyboard and mouse to give her practice on the computer.

I bought the v-smile for my son. With in the first month I had to replace the controller. And the system stopped working. But you can reset the system so it works, by unplugging everything. I even called the company and they were happy to replace the whole system if they needed too. It wasn't a bad purchase, but I was aggrevated in the beginning.

I have one for my two boys (age 3 and 5), we got it for them last Christmas. The boys love it. You definately go through a lot of batteries if they forget to turn it off and you dont catch it. There is a cord that you can buy extra but I havent gotten it yet because I keep forgetting about it :) till I have to put new batteries in it. We havent had any situations with the it including the microphone other than brother conflicts with one screaming into the microphone as the other one is trying to play.
Good luck with it if you decide. Like I said, so far I havent had any problems with it.

I have the V-Tech for my boys (5&9). They played with it for about a week. Got bored with it, and I had to try to encourage them to play with it. It's currently collecting dust with all of their Leap Pad systems as well. They have had it for a couple of years. So my youngest was your daughters age now when he was introduced to it.

My personal opinion is that the technology (graphics etc.) is primitive compared to all the other game systems that they are used to. The information is great, but it's not attractive enough (no HD) I'm sure that has an influence on their interest as well.

Good luck,
E.

Hi K.,

I have read them to after I purchase the Vsmile. I have had it for 2 years now. Every now and then the power does not want to turn on. But, I play around with it and it eventually turns on. I just got lucky with mine. I daughter loves it. She is 6 now, and still plays with it. Just hold on to your receipt. Good Luck! :)
