I'm also a MAFB wife and am a labor and delivery RN, too in Philly. We chose Burlington County OB/GYN and delivered at Our Lady of Lourdes in Willingboro (we lived in Westampton, 5 minutes away at that time - now we live on Ft. Dix). Having worked with various OB groups as an RN across the country, I found that this group was the best skilled with the most experience that I interviewed. We delivered our son almost 4 years ago and I know they have some new members in the practice, but we saw almost every doc in the practice and had no complaints - Dr. Zalkin delivered our son. I always felt safe with them and would trust them again if we were to have more children.
The only other input I'll give you is to think about what's most important in delivery. For me it was having a healthy baby no matter what. In checking out the 2 hospital choices we have as military wives, I found that at Lourdes there is an anesthesiologist and neonatologist on staff in hospital 24/7. At Virtua in Mount Holly they are only in hospital during the daytime hours, so if you come in at night and no one else is asking for an epidural, you will have to wait for the anesthesiologist to come in. Also, if you happen to come in and not have anyone else in labor, the neonatologist doesn't have to be in hospital either. Being an RN, I have seen things go badly quickly in labor and every minute counts. So, I couldn't deliver at a hospital where all the people who would need to be there in an emergency wouldn't necessarily be there when I needed them.
I hope this advice helps. If the practice you didn't like has other docs, you may want to check them out before dismissing them completely. I have heard OK (not great) things about Phoenix group so my best advice is to do your homework!! Feel free to email me with any more questions.
Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and baby......:)
