I know you've had plenty of responses by now, but I thought I'd give you one more. My first child was born at Underwood which is very close for me. After an unpleasant OB visit and pregnancy loss, I switched to Garden State OB/GYN. I had my 2nd and 3rd with them, both at Virtua in Voorhees. My 2nd was 8 1/2 years ago, my 3rd was in April '08. I thought the hospital was great both times. They do have more than one maternity floor. Well, at least they did last year. My sister-in-law went into labor the day my son was born. That's when I found out they had the other floor. For safety reasons, they put her on the other floor because our last names were the same. On my floor, the mom and the baby share a nurse. On the other floor, the mom and baby each have their own nurses. That's how it was with my 2nd child. They are pro-family I think. They were great with my other kids too. One of the delivery nurses brought my 8 year old warmed blankets to snuggle up with. They also brought enough snacks to share with my kids after delivery too.
If you don't have an epidural, you can carry your baby in the wheelchair right into the nursery. You get to see them do the measurements and other things.
I agree that they will let you sleep if you want to. I was nursing, and they did well only coming in when it was time to be fed in the middle of the night. It's all about what you want and need. Just make sure you let each nurse know what you like. I was even able to go visit my sister-in-law the next day. I couldn't take the baby though because it was on another floor.
At Garden State OB, you'll find there will be drs who are your favorite and those who you don't really care for. Every place is like that, especially with so many drs. I didn't really care for the dr. who delivered my 3rd son before I delivered. Now that's different. I went so quick, she didn't even leave the room after I was checked. I was in alot of pain and was probably very annoying to hear. My baby was in distress and she did not sugar coat things. When I whined that I couldn't do it, she let me know that I needed to get him out to save him. That motivated me and he was out quick...only 28 minutes after arriving at the hospital. There were some issues with him after the delivery and the NICU staff was there quick and explained everything well. He was fine and able to stay with me. The dr even made a comment to my husband on my behalf as I was complaining while being stitched up. That was very satisfying!
Overall a great experience both times! If I ever have another one, I will definately go there again.
Sorry for the lengthy response!!
