Vietnam War

J.S. asks from Green Cove Springs, FL

I have a personal favor to ask. My great uncle, James Wilburn Davis, was one of the men lost on the USS Frank E Evans when it collided with the HMSA Melbourne in the South China Sea during training maneuvers in 1969. 74 men lost their lives on the Evans that day. The Evans was serving in the Vietnam war. However, congress will not allow the men who died to be added to the Vietnam Memorial Wall. Why? Because they were outside the location parameters to be included. It did not matter that they were in combat before and were head back it. All that mattered was the location of their deaths. I believe this is an injustice, and so do many of their family members. These men fought and died just like men and women currently listed on the wall. Their sacrifice was just as great. I have started petition on change.org to send to congress asking that there names be added. I ask only that their memory be preserved along side their fallen brothers and sisters, and not forgotten simply because of the location of their deaths. I am adding the link in the So What Happened.

Thank You

P.S. I understand that this may not be the best place for this. I truly do. Please accept my apology if it offends.

You might want to ask care2.com to post this petition also. Good Luck -- I hope the US government and the VA get behind this and honor these men.

Done. Good for you. Making this public. Here is my post.

"Just because they died outside of the region does not mean they were not important figures of the war. They were serving this country as long as they were out of our country with our military. They were serving us. "

Signed, I LOVE change.org.
Good for you, sometimes rules that aren't bent for common sense can be so hurtful. We should all be proud to have those soldiers name's included on that memorial.
