hi all! We have decided to keep our old monitor in our 3 year old's room and get a video monitor for the new baby. I have read so many reviews on so many of them and still have no idea which to choose. I thought I would see what your experience was! Which have the best picture and audio (A lot of the reviews say only one or the other is good on some monitors). Are there any that take privacy precautions so that no one can pick up the signal and look at your baby! We don't do wireless internet but we do have wireless phones, what about interference? Give me the good and the bad! Thanks!

What can I do next?

We have the Summer Infant one ($170) and it is our favorite product! It is particularly helpful if you have a 2 story home. It is also super portable...small enough to toss in the diaper bag if you need to take it with you somewhere. Battery life is pretty good. I would charge it daily for a few hours so it can be portable. The sound quality is wonderful. You can hear the baby breathe and can even see their chest moving. Yes, there is periodic static, but we've found the best way to alleviate it is to keep the handset away from the phones, cells, remotes, etc. I've read about the horror stories about where people can see other babies, etc. but we have not experienced that. Don't really know about what privacy precautions to take, but just be sure to turn off the camera when not needed. They also have one in pink that I've seen lately (not sure what you're having, but it may be fun for a girl!)

I did my research on them as well and found that I liked the Graco monitor the best. We spent the extra money ($200 total) and it was worth it. My only complaint about it is that you need to keep it on the charger at might because when the video is on, the battery only lasts for about 3 hours.

I also have Summer video monitors. I bought the one w/ the small t.v. like screen for my first son, it has a nice big picture but not portable, for my second son I bought the Summer portable unit and as a bonus it turned out to be compatible w/ the other one, i.e. the units have a Channel A and Channel B, we have it set up in each child's room and both monitors will switch between views. Also, I had to send back for repair w/ the first model and I found that the process was super easy and there was no charge!!

M.~ I really like the "Summer" brand video monitor. It is the handheld that you can walk around with to different rooms in the house and always have it with you. The picture is great both during the day and at night! There is a button you press if you want to turn off the picture and just hear the audio...it is great and I highly recommend it!
