Vegas Bound!

So we've decided to finally make our way to Vegas. We're going in early May. We're thinking like the 10th thru the 13th. I'm totally excited! We know we want to stay on The Strip and get "the full Vegas experience" but we're so lost as to what that entails, lol. Any suggestions? I would really like to find an "adults only" place...I'm not taking my kids, so I sure as heck don't want to be woke up by someone else's screaming kids, lol.

What can I do next?

We always stay at Sam's Town, which is off the strip, but awesome. (and cheaper for being off the strip!) It has a great buffet (featured on Racheal Ray's 40 dollars a day among other things) and has a shuttle service that goes to the strip every half hour or so. We always rent a car, though, since it's incredibly easy to drive in vegas and all the hotels have parking garages.

We budgeted for 1 show, which for us was the Tournament of Kings at the Excalibur, as we're really into that sort of renaissance stuff. We did a lot of just walking around casinos, as they were neat. Ceasars had a neat mall with an anamatronic show "the fall of atlantis" which we also enjoyed. If we were to stay on the strip, we've decided we'd want it to be Ceasers. The venetian was also really pretty to look around, had great gelato, and gondola rides if you're into that. They also have a Madame Tussaud's wax museum, which was fun and high quality if you're into that.

Most hotels have free drinking as long as you're gambling, but you should take some cash for tipping.

The only place I can remember running into kids was in the lobby of our hotel (I was wearing my wedding dress, which seemed to be a kid magnet for some reason!) and outside the Belagio at 1 am, where one lady was breastfeeding and my aunt made sure to tell me she'd kick my rear if I ever brought a baby to vegas. :-) Oh! And at the Exaclibur before our show, simply b/c the waiting area was in the kids game room.

There's something for everyone in vegas, have a great trip!

It does come down to budget I guess. I'd recommend the venitian - awesome rooms, great restaurants and shopping (just to wander around the canals). Also not a bad location. The Paris is cheaper and also very nice. Have FUN. You shouldn't see many if any kids at any of the strip locations.

I have stayed in the Excalibur, which is on the end of the strip, and I have stayed in Fitzgeralds, which is on Freemont Street. (Where all the surviving neon is.) The Excalibur was very kid-friendly at the time. (It's been a few years.) You would probably be more likely to have a completely kids free experience on Freemont Street, as it is a slightly "grittier" part of town - the casinos are older, and are for gambling, and don't have as much gimmic. But you'd have to rent a car to get to the Strip.

However, Vegas was slowly starting to return to its "kids free" atmosphere the last time I was there; strollers are no longer allowed in any hotel lobbies, and children of any age seen on the casino floors will be followed by security. I witnessed a woman sit down at a slot with a toddler on her lap, who was told to leave. Children are strictly not allowed to touch the tables or machines.

Have fun!

When we lived in Vegas, the Belagio was the only hotel that didn't allow kids to enter under 18 unless they were staying there. It is one of the nicest hotels on the strip and will probably cost a lot more. The northern part of the strip (near the Stratosphere) is the oldest part and a little run down. There are lots of casinos between Mandalay Bay and Treasure Island on the strip.

Have fun....and don't take the "cards" they hand out on the strip. They are ads for adult entertainment. :) You will see them all over the ground....unless they have changed that in the past couple of years.

If you'd like to see some natural beauty...check out Red Rock Canyon (far west side of Vegas) and the Hoover Dam.

We stayed at the Hard Rock and it was wonderful! It is just off the strip, but an easy walk/cab ride. B/C it was "off" the strip, it was a little less $$ which left us more to spend!

wow....I guess some people don't read very well.....(refering to previous answer).

I would suggest the Hard ROck.....I stayed there back in 2001 ( I know a long time ago), but there were NO kids. I don't know if they allow kids or not though. The hard rock is not on the strip.....but it is a really happening spot. I don't know if it is anti kid.....but they sure market it like that. The palms kinda market themselves like that too.

I have also stayed at Mandalay bay & MGM, and I don't remember seeing any kids there.

I live in vegas.....and there really aren't a LOT of kids on the strip. At one time they tried to make VEGAS a kid friendly place.....but then they realized that that type of marketing technique wasn't going to work here. So....they really isn 't a lot for kids to do.

To be sure you don't see any kids...don't go into the m&m store, or any other kid type stores on the strip....obviously.

My husband and I went almost a year ago and we stayed at Ceasers Palace....I booked through US AIRWAYS.COM and it was so cheap and so easy. We live in DFW/TX and for 2 night and first class airline travels it cost us 350 a person. Flight and HOtel included. Ceasers is right in the middle of the strip. So you can get to all the other hotels very easy. The rooms were huge and clean. I loved it. We had a basic room. And it had 2 TVs in the bathroom alone. Check out US airways I promise you wont be disappointed.
