Vasectomy V/s Getting Tubes Tied

I am trying to get my husband to get a vasectomy, he won't do it. I would have had my tubes tied but I had my son at a catholic hospital and they won't do it, so you might want to take that into consideration...

If you are having a c-section I strongly suggest that you have your tubes tied. There are no side effects and there is no later risk to your health.
On the other hand it has been proven that vasectomies greatly increase the risk of prostate cancer and alzheimers disease.
If you are not having a c-section you might want to consider other forms of birth control like an iud or I have heard of another form of permanent birth control though I can't think of it right now, but I know it has been talked about on this website.
In the end you and your husband have to make the decision about what is right for you.

Yvette: Another option to consider and discuss with your doctor....

I had the Essure procedure done 7 months after my last child. I am so happy with the results. The initial implantation of the coils was unremarkable....no pain, no bleeding and no limitations whatsoever. You must follow up for a further diagnostic exam a min of 3 months later to make sure your tubes are 100% blocked. This test was mildly uncomfortable yet very brief. My advice to you would be to make sure that the doctor performing the procedure is experienced (ask for how many procedures he/she have performed). My husband will be getting a vasectomy next year. It is in office. You can have it done on Friday and they can go back to work on Monday. Our insurance does cover it. At least one other guy we know had it done, and he said it was no big deal. No to very little pain, and they get to lay around the house for a whole weekend.

IF you have a c-section my suggestion is to do it then... Sometimes the c-section comes on suddenly, so just make sure you've discussed it with all parties ahead of time just in case. Good luck with everything!

Hands down - vasectomy. I don't say that because I'm a female and I have tubes either.

A vasectomy is a less-invasive procedure. He will get a local anesthetic, get snipped, and be done very quickly. It costs less than a tubal ligation. The recovery time is minimal.

A tubal ligation is a surgical procedure requiring (usually) general anesthesia, which naturally poses more risk. If you're having a c-section and are already 'open' then you may wish to consider it.

I had a tubal during my scheduled c-section. Simple & covered by insurance, all done at once. I know 4 women who have also had it done after their last child as well and have been happy with it.

Biggest pro with his proceedure is it's local & reversible in case you change your mind..

For me, I'd go for the 1 stop shopping every time.

Sometimes things aren't as simple as people make them out to be. Yes, a vasectomy is much easier and cheaper, but you really need to discuss with your husband and his doctor the risks from this surgery. I have read and heard that it increases the risk of prostate cancer and some other conditions. On the other hand, getting your tubes tied (if they aren't already in there doing a c-section) is much more invasive and costly, but there really are no side effects like you can have with a vasectomy. Just something to think about.

My husband had a vasectomy, and it was covered under our insurance so the cost was $15. He had it done last year the day before thanksgiving and he was only down for a day. It was his idea so I said sure.

VASECTOMY!!!!

Much easier and quicker recovery...My husband had this done 5 years ago and it was a great decision... I am very lucky my husband knew right from the get go that he would have the procedure done, since I carried the kids this was what he would do in return. Why go through more recovery and surgery if not neccessary
