Valentine's Day - Morrisville,PA

I was just wondering what (if anything) do you get your children for Valentine's Day. I have 4 kids ages 7,5,3 &1. I like to get them something small but the last thing any of them need is another toy or stuffed animal. We do books for SO many other occasions and non occasions. I'm running low on creativity. Ideas?

What can I do next?

Isn't it all about the chocolate? We give the kids chocolate and usually a new video game or something they wanted for Christmas and didn't get.

I also started a new tradition of chocolate fondue for dessert after dinner. The kids really like it (so does hubby and me lol) and it's the only time of the year I do it now so they look forward to it.

We always do something small. A card to each of them with a treat.

My husband and I will be gone to Hawaii during Valentine's Day this year so I already have the stuff ready to go for the sitter to leave out for the kids.

Kids just like getting something. For them, they could care less about getting the most Pinterest-y Perfect creative gift. Get them each a bag of their own microwave popcorn and a packet of hot cocoa all tied up with a bow. Then watch a movie together all cuddled up eating and drinking their treats.

Or...get them each a small, soft, cozy blanket for snuggling and attach a note saying let's snuggle up together tonight and watch a special movie.

Kids love to get a little something but what they really want is time with you!

Great for me to say as we are leaving our kids to go to Hawaii...hee...hee!! We are doing something together before we leave and we will do a special get away with them during Spring Break.

I always liked getting my kids things like red pencils with a light up heart or ball of fluff at the end.

Simple, useful, inexpensive, and fun. Not food, not bulky dust collectors.

I usually try to keep the budget small an older movie on DVD they will like ($5-$10) some candy in a cute box from the dollar store. When they where a little younger I'd get junk from the dollar store and put in in a bag. Now I try not to but stufff that I'll be throwing in the trash in 2 min lol. I've done sidewalk chalk, art stuff, etc

I saw really cute cups I've thought about getting them some cute new cup and filling with candies . Oh small itunes gift cards that's another idea.

Books are great too!

Yes, I usually get them a small toy.

However, in the past I've given them blankets, blocks, a Nerf gun, cute pillow for dtr's room, a rug for their room, a ball, picture for their room, book, pens/finger paints, stickers, craft supples, doll, Matchbox cars, puzzles or a board game etc.

I decorate the house w/red, pink & white streamers & balloons, lights.

Make fun food (heart shaped pancakes in the morning, I use one of those metal cookie cutters for cutting heart shaped toast or to cut out their sandwich once it's made, I buy heart shaped crackers, make a heart shaped cake.),

They get them some candy.

I give them those little cards you buy in a pack for them to gake to school.
The older ones take those to school.

I set the table w/heart shaped plates. Just little fun things.

when my boys were little valentines day was just the pick-me-up we needed to bridge the post-holiday blues and spring fever. so while i do realize it's a hallmark holiday blah blah, we partied it up. i'd get them little boxes of chocolates and a small toy, and we'd have a decadent chocolate dessert.
but the piece de resistance was my spurting heart meatloaf.
through many years of trial and error, i perfected the method of baking a frozen tomato in the center of my heart-shaped meatloaf. when it came out of the oven, piping hot and glistening with deep-red bbq sauce and ketchup, we would gather round and i would ceremoniously stab it, and red goo would spurt and ooze, to a delightful chorus of retching noises and cheers.
my husband has never approved. :)
now that the boys have moved out, there's just no fun in doing it on my own. i just have to hope that at some point my future DILs will want to continue the tradition, or that at least i get a grandkid or three to gross out.
one thing i might do today if i still had interested parties at home would be to read them a cleaned up version of chaucer's 'parliament of foules' (the basis for valentines day) and do a bird-themed party.

We have a charming sweet shop here that specializes in gourmet hand made chocolates other extravagant & decadent desserts (and cocktails :) We're taking our kids there for a special treat. I'll also get them a little gift and probably some cash, as they are always saving for something. They are 6 & 9.

One of our biggest hits from our Elf on the Shelf was a pack of assorted glitter glue tubes. It cost around $2.50 (Roger the elf told me).
I grew up in the flower business, so I like to get my kids flowers, usually just 1-3 of something in their current favorite color. If you avoid red roses, that can be very reasonable, even at V-day! My kids always get a heart shaped box of Russell Stover's chocolates. It is a family tradition for me that reminds me of my dad who has passed away, so it is small and not a "healthy choice," but important to me for sentimental reasons.

I usually do something small. My kids (5 & 7) think gift cards are the greatest thing ever! We have done B&N, iTunes, favorite ice cream place, etc. This year I might do one to a paint your own ceramics place.

I am downloading the new KidsBop album for them. 3kids= 1 download (affordable) and maybe a new app that they all want.

They have enough candy, stuffed animals, pencils and smencils.
