S.S.
we don't do gifts for valentines day. i do give them funny cards. and usually conversation hearts. I put a heart shaped cookie in the lunchboxes. of hubby and kids. although my kids are grown up now i still do the funny cards. thats it.
Just getting some extra ideas.
If you buy little gifts for your kids, what types of things do you tend to buy them?
Do you do anything fun, different or extra special?
I like to get the hubby & kids a little something, I make a nice dinner then I like to try to make a cute dessert.
Looking to add something different.
Any & all ideas appreciated. Thanks.

I buy them some 1/2 price chocolate on the 15th.
Birthdays and Christmas are the 'gifting' holidays around our house.
For most of the rest we might have some small chocolates/treats that Grandma sent.
So many holidays are going more crazy with the mega candy grab (Halloween, Easter, etc) and gifting - we try to keep it simple.
Why not try making some Valentine's Jello Hearts for your dessert?

Yes, we purchased some little things. Things that she would use anyway, but in valentine colors or with hearts on them, Hair bows, bubble bath, heart shaped soap. Socks, tshirt. sweater, Tooth brush with hearts on it and always a card and chocolate.
When I was a child my father gave each of us a Heart shaped Box of chocolates and for my mother a piece of jewelry,
We usually go out to a special dinner and many times take our daughter with us. In the past (and now) she loves getting dressed up and going to a fine restaurant.
This year we are taking our daughter and her boyfriend. We did this on New Years Eve at a very nice restaurant and they loved it. So when Valentines was mentioned, she mentioned this restaurant again. We treat them because her boyfriend is in college as well and they get a top notch dinner from a fine restaurant and we all spend a little time together. The restaurant is now a favorite for all of us!
Hubby always gets a nice valentine box of candy for our daughter. She likes those cheesy boxes with assorted chocolates and typically cuts them in half and eats the desirables. LOL
I usually pick up her favorite Godiva chocolates and give her some cash.
Hubby brings roses home for me which is nice as well.
We don't do special gifts for each other. Two weeks ago hubby surprised me when I thought we were going to lunch and he stopped in Tiffany's and showed me a ring he had picked out for me. I was surprised. This surprise was for our recent 12/31 26th anniversary, upcoming Valentines and a thank you for what I do with our company. Sweet!
I've seen coupons for favors be given before that are a lot of fun. You can make them appropriate for children as well. Of course, have a couple of naughty ones for hubby.
Pinterest has a lot of cute stuff for Valentines.
Have fun.. I am sure your efforts are appreciated and you are happy when you see them smile!!
We usually get the kids something small. A book, small lego set, CD, something like that. Nothing over $15 really.
My husband and I don't exchange gifts for Valentine's. It's Hallmark - which I know is funny because we make a big deal for the kids, but still.
This year we have two of the kids friends coming for a sleepover, so we'll do taco's or something fun for dinner and a fun dessert.
When the girl was little, I used to give her a small box of chocolates. I stopped when she was ten and told me that "valentines from your parents are lame."
My boyfriend is a musician and currently carries his sheet music in a cloth grocery bag. I bought a plain canvas tote, some letter stencils, and some music-themed appliques. I found some fabric with a print of Andy Warhol's Beatles painting, and I'm cutting his initials out of that.
I get my daughter a stuffed animal. That's all she wants. Sometimes I will take her out to dinner depending on the weather. Last year it snowed on Valentines day so there wasn't much celebrating.
My kids are older, 15 and 12. I get them their favorite candies and usually a new video game or music or something they wanted for Christmas but didn't get.
I get hubby candy and also something else he wants, depends.
I make usually a heart shaped meatloaf with red sauce poured over it for dinner. Then a few years ago I decided to start a new tradition and do a chocolate fondue for dessert. It's pretty expensive but it's the only time we do it and everyone looks forward to it so its fun.
Hope you find some fun ideas. Pintrest is full of them. Good luck.
