Ok, I have been through too many vacumns in the past 3 years and I am just tired of it! Does anyone have any suggestions for a good vacumn that will still work in 2 years....work well that is! I have tried many different bagless, and to be honest with you I would prefer a regular old bag vacumn. After 6 months it is always working half as good as it did when I first bought it. :( I clean all of my filters every 2-3 months and keep it well maintained and still no luck! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I hear ya!!! I went through the same, so I looked up consumer reports and went with the Hoover, it's been a great vacuum. My friend went with the Dyson and it's really a great vacuum but we couldn't afford the Dyson but if you can it's worth it. The Hoover we bought was a little over $200 and it's been great for about 2 yrs now.

We bought an old-fashioned (but new) Kirby about 10 years ago. It still vacuums just as well as it did when we bought it. It is a bit heav to lug up and down the stairs, but if you want something that lasts, well heavy usually means well-made in my book. We bought ours from a salesman that came to our door (like a couple of our neighbors- who are also very happy with their Kirbys), but I know you can buy them at some vacuum shops. Look up vacuum cleaners in your area. There are a couple shops in McKinney. I like Willett's.
I believe most or all of them have power assist- it drives forwards and backwards- much easier on the back (it's a heavy machine, remember).

You can check them out at http://www.kirby.com/Portals/0/index2.html. Guess you can request to have someone come to your house to demo it. It's going to be one of the more expensive vacuums- but usually things that last are more expensive. Ours has been worth it. Oh, and don't forget, if you have the demo and the guy starts making deals- negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. We got a good deal that way- better than others who don't negotiate well.

I am getting the Oreck.

I've heard that Dyson is a good machine, however, it is very heavy and not so easy to use. My mom HATES her Dyson.

I currently have 2 Self Propelled Hoovers that are about 10 yrs old. One upstairs and one downstairs.

I clean houses and use many different vacuums. By far the Dyson is the best. You will be amazed at how much stuff is still in your carpet even after you use your regular vacuum. It is bagless so I get you on that point. You will have to frquently clean the canister the first few weeks you use it because it will pick up dirt from years ago!!!

The oreck is good also but I do not like the lack of beautiful vacuum lines it leaves on the carpet. I really do not feel it picks up as well....

My grandma has a Kirby and we call it the dinosaur because it is so heavy but it really works....

I say save up and get the Dyson but that is just my opinion. Good luck and happy shopping (hopefully for the last time for many many years)

Dyson. They have many models to choose from. We bought ours at Target. We love it and we are so happy we spent the extra money on it. We were like you and had gone through way too many vacuums.

Good luck!

Hi S., My husband just bought me a Dyson allergy & asthma Vacuum for my birthday last weekend. It is by far the best!!ever! & there is a 5 yr. warranty. It cleaned the carpets so well I was amazed at what it picked up, & I vacuum all the time. My Bissel wasn't doing the trick at all. & I have 2 chiuhahuas & it picked tons of dust & hair. Plus it is light to use & almost rolls without even pushing it. It's great. They are a bit pricey, but just think you will keep it for at least 5 yrs. guaranteed. You can check out the website, but you can buy them at best buy, Target, alot of diffrent places. Good luck. KJ
