My family loves to travel. We love to take vacations whenever we can. But this summer, we are expecting a baby in early July. I know that we won't be able to go on any huge vacations, but I would still like to take a couple smaller ones. Any ideas? We are in the Concord, NH area. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Try to get a cabin or independent building of some sort when you travel. When our youngest was about 9 months, we took a couples vacation to Maui. The only thing I wanted from that trip was sleep. First night there, we ended up roomed next door to a couple with a newborn. Needless to say, that was a horrendous night of sleep for us, with the baby waking every 2 hours. We were going to ask to be moved but thankfully those people left the next day.

Walls in hotels can be thin, so do think about ways your vacation won't infringe on those of others.

Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Block Island - they are within easy driving distance from where you're at!

How about a nice relaxing time in the White Mountains. It's a short drive and there are a lot of things to do. I like to rent a cabin for a week or so and just enjoy nature. Or there is always Hampton Beach. Just as relaxing...less mosquitos :) Google "things to do in NH" and you'll get more stuff than you'll have time for. Have a great summer and congrats on the new baby.

Hi K.,

Since you have children already, you probably remember that you don't sleep very much with a newborn and they need to be somewhat protected from germs. I would suggest being outdoors when possible to help keep the germs down and probably not more than a weekend here or there. We were told not to fly with our newborn until he had his 4 month shots! Of course he was born in Sept so that was over Christmas - we drove home:(

Weekend in Newport, RI would be great! It's low-key and you can do as much or as little as you like! Even with a newborn you can tour the mansions, walk along the water and look at the homes, Ghost Tour (baby won't be scared), sit on the beach, go out to eat...

We loved it there and hope to take our kids with us next time we go!

We went to the beach with our newborn. We bought a tent-like sunshade, and the baby and I lounged there while everyone else played on the beach and dug in the sand. It was great, and very do-able.
