Hi Ladies,
For the past week I have what I thought was a UTI. I had burning sensation when I peed, having to pee all the time, and little to no urine output. I drank only water for 5 days and decided yesterday to finally make a dr. appointment. Well now I have an appointment for today, but I am feeling a little better. It doesn't burn so much and I'm am not going to the bathroom every 5-10 minutes. I am still not urinating a lot though. Should I still go to the dr even though I am feeling better? Do you think it will go away with my continuous water drinking. By the way, I have never had a UTI so I need some advice here. Thanks!

What can I do next?

there are OTC meds for UTI, but if it's a really bad infection, you will need to go to the dr. and maybe because you've already waited so long, I would go to the dr. Hope you feel better soon :)

YES, definitely go to the doc. I am juuuuust now getting over one after 1 week of hellish pain and burning, fever for 3 days, flank pain, body aches, and general feeling of hell. I finally went and got put on Cipro for 10 days, which is hardcore! It turns out it is a kidney infection. I am still recovering and my energy is super low.

This one is luckily a no-brainer. At the office, you will pee in a cup, they'll pop a stick in it and if you have in infection, it will show instantly (you can also get these kits at any store, just so you know for the future). If you have an infection, you need antibiotics. If you don't, the test will show that. So do go the appointment. An untreated UTI is a nightmare and it's so quick and easy and cheap to treat that there's no reason not to. In my experience, actual UTI's don't go away on their own (I've had them since I was three).

Please go! You may feel better when there is still an infection. An untreated infection can get dangerous and spread, and last longer. How we feel is often a very poor way to judge whether infections are present in our bodies. Water drinking will help flush out the system but does not ever replace antibiotics and a real diagnosis.

Also, you're assuming it's a UTI; it could be other things. Better to know for sure; we're not doctors and can't diagnose you here. Please check it out.

Sounds like the water drinking has HELPED but not FIXED the problem. I'd still head to the doctor. It shouldn't burn at all. If it's still hurting, something is still wrong.

When I had a UTI, I went to bed fine and woke up feeling like I was trying to pass a razorblade! There was blood in my urine (TMI) and I could barely get myself to relax enough to go when I needed to. There is no way I could make it a week.

This thing could turn much worse VERY quickly. Go get checked out as soon as possible before you end up in more serious pain!

it could get better with continous water drinking ( you have to drink a LOT) and cranberry juice also helps. if you want, you can try that for a couple more days and see if it improves but sometimes you need an antibiotic to get rid of it. since it's already been 5 days though, i'd go. an untreated uti can get ugly.

Like others have said an untreated UTI spreads and can become a kidney infection. A lucky few of us skip the UTI experience and go straight to a full blown kidney infection. Think fever, back pain, chills, etc. Good luck at the doctor's.

It's been 5 days. That's far too long, to fix this at home. You need an antibiotic.

Here's the deal-you can feel better and get a little ahead of the infection-then it comes back with a vengeance-all the while- everything's connected to your kidneys-those pesky little organs that you only get two of-still-hard to come by if you need a new one-so I say-go! Don't wait another day-and good luck!

Yeah, you need to go, it can go to your kidneys too.

Next time, since this is your first time, you could try just having your doc call the med to the pharmacy. My doc does that for me when Im certain thats what it is.

I have often had what felt like the start of a UTI and all have resolved with healthy eating and drinking lots of water. Never have gotten on antibiotics for one.
