If all else fails, call a professional carpet cleaner - but do it soon. If it doesn't go too long they can usually get it out.
HELP! My 2 year old just had an accident on my brand-new mattress! It is a pillow top just a few weeks old and shame on us, we haven't gotten around to buying a mattress cover. I blotted up the stain and sprayed it w/ resolve right away. But now about 6 hours later, it smells horrible! What can I do to get the rest of the stain out and remove the horrible odor? Thanks for your help.

You can go to any place that sells mattresses and they usually sell something that will clean-up proteen based stains (urine, blood, etc.). I have bought some from the mattress store on Furinture Row and it has saved me!
I used something called Eco-88 that I got a pet store, not sure if it is the same active ingrediant that the others mentioned, but it worked like a charm!
Good Luck,
A.
Hi A.,
I agree with the carpet cleaning company. Use a company that uses really hot water or it will sort of defeat the purpose.
Also, resolve isn't the best choice of cleaners, has some toxic issues. You'll be sleeping on the residuals of the resolve that stay behind.
Check out my blog for reading about toxin exposures:

Borax works really well for this kind of accident. I made a kind of paste with a little bit of water with the Borax and left it on for a few hours. You can get Borax in the laundry section of any supermarket.

We buy amazing non-toxic products from Melaleuca. They have a stain remover that gets out everything from red wine to you-name-it. Check out the website www.melaleuca.com, and let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
Hi A.,
Get a bottle of white vinegar. Saturate the stain with the white vinegar, blot it pretty agressively and let it air dry. It will take the odor out. I've used this in my recliners and on the couch after my daughter has had an accident during a knap. My furniture is darker colored, and I don't have any evidence of a stain. I've not sure how well it will do with the stain, but the odor will be gone for sure.
Kindest Regards,

I recommend you go a pet store and buy Nature's Miracle. It is made to neutalize/remove pet urine stains and it works very well. I would think it would do just as well on your matress.
Good luck!

Hi A.,
Oxyclean takes out protein based odors and does not leave any cover up odor behind. If you have the powder kind just mix it with warm water to a medium paste, put over area, let sit for 10 min. wipe off, rinse with clean water several times and if necessary repeat, one time is usually enough. There won't be any after smell and the urine smell is gone for good. I use the powder along with my detergent for all the kids clothes especially when potty training and their clothes get a bit smelly. The odor is completely gone.
Good luck,

When I had that problem, I bought and used a product called "Kids N Pets" instant all-purpose stain and odor remover. The bottom of the label reads "professional strength carpet cleaner" but look at the back of the bottle and see that it can be used on any washable item. It is non-toxic and safe to use around kids and pets. I found it in the carpet cleaner section at Wal-Mart.
I second the advice to use Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution Stain and Odor Remover. PetSmart has it. I've used it for years to clean up pet accidents (from both ends), even used it when meat purchased at Costco leaked all over the back of my car. Saturate the spot. It works great to get the smell out. I just used it last night when my one-year-old whizzed all over the bathroom rug before I got him in the tub! Fabulous stuff!
